  1. well good news, you dont have to worry about the EGR stuff, BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE IT LOL!!!!!! you can swap this motor into there just fine, just go to the JY and pull a wire harness from a car that has NO EGR on it. if possible, use the wire harness from an impreza, the EJ18 ECU came with better top end fuel and timing maps, and are a benefit for the EJ22. make sure you use a decent exhaust, 2'' or bigger for this motor. 2.25'' would be great. ~Josh~
  2. swap engine harness form EJ18 onto EJ22 intake manifold. that way you can use your stock wiring. you might need the EJ22 exhaust manifold, the EJ18 might be single port, and since the EJ22 came form a legacy, im guesing it is dual port exhaust heads. you cant swpa the EJ18 intake mani. onto the EJ22 shortblock, the intake manifold follows the heads: EJ18 heads=EJ18 manifold , EJ22 heads=EJ22 manifold. you get the idea. should be for the most part straight forward and pretty easy. but as usual, motor swaps rarely go off without a hitch somewhere. ~Josh~
  3. what about a helical rear diff locker/LSD. like on the STI's, when wheel slip happens, it forces the helical gears together and it tightens up and allows not too much slipping. just a thought. ~Josh~
  4. i think the same design carries over to the new gens. you pull out the C-clip retainer. then you pull axle shaft w/race and bearings out. next you pull the little C-clip on the axleshaft itself, and slide all the components off as one.....throw in garbage. if you happen to have a spare laying around have at it. if not......time for a JY run!!!! ~Josh~
  5. no idea whatsoever, but interested in this "conversion" ~Josh~
  6. if you have issues with getting out of 4WD you should go in reverse and back up a car length or so to unload the bind in the tranny. i put it into 4WD on wet roads, ice, snow, and gravel. i heard someone say "dont engage 4WD unless there is at LEAST a 10-20% slippage factor on the surface your driving on. seems to work for me. i also go into 4 LO while on the fly, i dont jam it in there, i give it time ( a second or two) to engage and then i let the clutch out slowly. ~Josh~
  7. wow, that is a jungle down there.......too bad you cant throw an EJ motor in there....but you probably would miss the turbo spooling feel. ~Josh~
  8. i dont know where this tranny stub issue came in, but i have no problems, i just dont clutch dump. if you got the Ej22 under the hood, you can just use the gas. you dont have to dump the clutch at 4k. on the highway i dont have to use ANY throttle at all. i would bet that you would turn 28'' tires with not too many issues. if your looking for low end torque, go with an EJ motor, and use the EJ exhaust, or custom route.
  9. ive always wondered if the air-water intercooler is better in hot weather than the air-air IC........does it keep intake air temp. really consistent? ~Josh~
  10. the last time i had that problem was when my voltage regulator on my alternator was going out, got new alternator and it was a okay. ~Josh~
  11. why yes sir it does, if you can use the new gen clutch on the old gen car, you SHOULD be able to put old gen stuff into new gen car.
  12. the WRX center diff has a 1.1:1 ratio, thats why the rear diff is 3.545 and the front is 3.90. however, you should be able to put your ring and pinion on the WRX rear diff and it all should be fine, but dont hold me to that. even if its only fifty bucks down the drain, you didnt lose much. ~Josh~
  13. i remember reading over on nasioc that you cant use the STI stuff in the other non-STI trannys, something about size or something. butdoesnt kaaz or cusco make a front lsd for the wrx? if they do, you could put that in. ~Josh~
  14. i dont know what the differences between the EA-81 cars and the EA82 cars are, but i imagine there really close. you can use the legacy and impreza stuff for the fornt, but you HAVE to use 4WD XT6 rear stuff :calipers, rotors, backing plate, hub, etc,... all EA rear axles are the same diameter and spline count, so you dont need custom axles for the rear. but you do need custom axles for the front ONLY IF you have a non-turbo tranny( like a dual range). for that you take the XT6 or impreza axle, and swap the tranny-side of the axle onto the XT6 or impreza axle. there is tons of info out there, search and ye shall find. if i remember correctly, someone has a EA-81 5-lug swap on there car, cant remember the name though. i need those bearings really fast, i wonder if they need to be pressed in, or if i can use the axle to press them in........ either way, my cutoff point is in a couple days, i either buy new bearings, or i go to the JY and hope the XT6 has good bearings in it already. oh well, they arent too expensive, maybe ill just buy em. ~Josh~
  15. i like the other way.......remove the bolt that attaches the lower control are to the body.......remove the sway bar mount on the lower control arm. (for driver side axle) turn wheel to the right, opposite for the other side. by turning the wheel you can get in behind it and it allows you to pull out on the knuckle. ~Josh~
  16. you should be able to find a warlboro 255 LPH fuel pump for $80 or less on nasioc.com, it would be nice to get an inline pump though. and there should a way to use a N/A pump, they are MPFI after all, just dont use as much fuel, but they put out relatively the same pressure, just not the volume of the turbo pump. ~Josh~
  17. you can do that because you dont a hav any cats, so your exhuast flows more freely. sounds better than my car when it had the EA82.
  18. that clicking could be your bearings........but as far as the axle goes, get one form a JY or a discount place, and buy the CV boot repair kit, when you bust a boot, you'll be able to fix it. its not hard at all. ~Josh~
  19. ya i did sign up, but i usually search for my info, and if i dont find it then i post. as far as the bearings, those are so much cheaper than the ones i can get in town. one question though, do i need 4? they look big in the picture, not sure if it is just a picture they throw up there. the ones i sourced in town were $60 a piece, so $18 sounds like a steal to me, and since i broke both of the races when i took the bearings out, i wont ned to find new races, cause both of them were worn out. and lastly, it says the bearing are the inner ones, i thought that both inner and outer were the same. p.s. the pictures are tiny because i couldnt figure out how to attach them in their normal 2MB form. ~Josh~
  20. lower than that....yes sir alot lower. when you just are poking along in low range your rpm's are only like at 1000-2000 most of the time anyway. if your turbo doesnt spool until almost 3k, then you are off boost for most of the "crawling parts". now if your trying to spin the wheels in a mud pit thats different, but as far as offroad speed. your not going very fast at all, in fatc, you could probably get out of your car and walk just as fast as the people in their cars on the trail. ~Josh~
  21. remember, you can mount the new one in the engine bay instead of under the car, just remove the old pump and add a section of hose to replace the space where the old pump use to be, then plumb in the new pump and run power to it via a toggle switch for added security or run it off the existing wiring. like everyone else said, dont get a fuel injection pump. ~Josh~
  22. if you go 5 lug you wont have to get custom axles.....sorry....voice from the darkside......... ~Josh~
  23. a 6 inch lift? dang man you must really want ground clearance!!! im wondering where you got your long bolts for the lift? and how many "points" do you have to lift to get it done? ~Josh~
  24. $100 for the whole car? it costs darn near that much to TOW the car!!!! i say grab it and take what you want from it, and give/sell everything you dont need or want from it. as far as the tranny goes...it could be something like a shifter fork is broke, or it could be second gear is toast and the rest of the gears have little metal chunks in between them now.... ~Josh~
  25. a quad cam should be able to fit in the EA82 cars with very little modification, but i dont know if you can get it to run using a disty or not.........sounds like you have something against wires and computers to me...lol. ~Josh~
