i think if you used the forester springs in the forester struts you have now, it would raise you a bit, maybe an inch or two. as far as your axle angles, the rears can take quite a bit of an angle. but if you cut about an inch off of the forester springs, you could make up for a bit of that. and since the forester is heavier than you impreza, the springrate will be higher, making your ride stiffer. just remember to get your alignment checked, not like you would forget anyways.........right....... ~Josh~

are EA81T exhaust ports single or dual? ive never seen them so im stabbing in the dark here. but i guess you could, it is larger piping, would be better for flow, but might not be enough for turbo exhaust. ~Josh~

dude, if you got 140 to the wheels from an EA81, then i dont think there is much we can do for you!!!! LOL!!!!!!! ~Josh~

Portland and Salem!

i live in salem, glad to know one more person in my area that wheels a subie. -
yes, any EJ tranny will bolt up to any EJ motor, and i do mean ANY. the only thing that changes are the gear ratios, and the fact of being automatic or not. hell, if you really felt like it you could throw in a wrx tranny into your 1994 legacy and call it good, you would get really good mileage on the highway, but horrible take off and maintain speed, ratios are too long, not made for N/A cars. ~Josh~

i have had my share of this kind of thing, so i decided to think OUTSIDE the box. go to home depot or another parts store, grab a 3/4'' female "T", and 2 3/4'' -5/8'' male "barb" fittings, and one 3/4'' male "plug", the barb fittings have the 3/4'' thread on one side, and on the other side it is 5/8''(the I.D. of heater core hoses on an EA car) the barb is lookin kinda like this <<<<<]IIIII (the arrows are the barb, and the I's are the threads) also, grab a roll of teflon tape if you dont already have some. tape all connections. put the 3/4'' barb fitting into the 3/4'' "T", coolant will flow better in a straight line so put the fittings on the "T" in a straight line, you put the plug facing the hood. choose the heater core hose that is the highest from the ground, it should be the highest point in the cooling system. undo rad cap, and use funnel to fill from the new brass fitting, after removing the plug of course, after rad is full, pump both heater core hoses to ensure that all the air is out. there WILL be air still in the system. start car, let thermostat open and let coolant flow with plug off of the brass fitting, continue pumping hoses while engine runs. you should be able to see coolant flowing past the plug end of your "T". after car warms up, and doesnt overheat, turn off and let cool completely. air expands and displaces more water when hot, by letting the colling system cool all the way, the air left in the system will find a way out, so leave the 3/4'' plug out while it cools. then, refill with coolant and put plug into brass fitting, start car and repeat these steps if more air is in the system, if not, enjoy. ~Josh~

this is great ammo for the subie haters of the world!!!! all the guys at work make fun of my "pos" subaru, i odnt really care, this is my hobby, i love my car, first car ive ever owned AND driven. i now have 3 subarus. my 86 gl handles better in the snow than my 98 legacy, sure th legacy looks alot nicer. like alot of peole on this board, i like to work on my car, something about wrenches and oil i think....... but anyway, who the hell cares what other people think about your car, yours is paid for, gets better gas mileage, is slower, and can go places their car can only dream of going. the really only thing holding subarus back is ground clearance. motors can be swapped, axle ratios and trannys can be changed, but the most important thing about a subaru, is the driver, laughing at the top of the hill or mountain, making fun of all the people that didnt make it to the top. ~Josh~

Question for Corky or Tex about rear e brake
ballitch replied to XSNRG's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
so if you want the rear e-brake with a 5 lug you need to use impreza or legacy calipers? is there anyway you could do both? use XT6 front calipers for the front, and legacy or impreza calipers for the back. and make a custom mount for the rear e-brake handle right next to the stock front e-brake handle........interesting........im probably just pissin' into the wind on this one though......... ~Josh~ -
i have to agree with baccaruda, it is worth the price. i value my personal time so if i didnt have to jump through all those hoops that i had to, to get my adapter plate, i would buy one. you know what they say, hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20. if you can get one made from steel. ~Josh~

as far as the ER27, your screwed if you need to be smog legal. but honestly, i have too much power for my grip right now anyway, that can change though. cant imagine what 2.7 liters of subie power would do to my wheels.............you really dont have anything to worry about, lots of people will help you out on this. ive done it and im a dumba$$!!!!!!! my best piece of advice is take your time. unless it has to happen by monday morning so you can drive to work or school, its not that important. ~Josh~

ya, definately put it in the cab, i found a nifty little place above the heater tube thingy behind the glove box. ~Josh~

is your outback from the impreza line, not the legacy? if so, then yes, the wrx is an impreza with a better motor, and some better suspension goodies, but they all interchange between imprezas. ~Josh~

the EGR valve is a mileage driven instrument, every 60,000 miles it ocmes on, ten you reset it, odnt know how, i took mine to a mechanic. as far as it being on all the time, got no advice for you there.

dude, use some freakin zip ties or elec. tape or something man, jesus, like a rats nest, you must have been in a hurry.

are youtrying to go sleeper style with your car, if so, swap in a EJ22t block with DOHC EJ25 heads, either legacy GT heads or RS heads, both the same. your compression ratio will be a little above 8.0:1, or it could be like 7.5:1, one of those two. you wont have off the line power, but when your turbo spools.....hold on. if your going to trail ride the car, and go offroad, use a N/A motor. but i wouldnt use the EJ25, use a EJ22 or EJ18, true, not nearly as many aftermarket options, but if you can deal with that. thats my advice. or you could use the EJ25 block, its a phase II, you said it came form a 2000 RS, so throw some EJ22 heads on it, preferable phase II. and boom, you have 11.5:1 compression ratio. you will have to run premium. but you wont need engine management. if you go that route, and dont like your compression that high, use the DOHC head gasket, its like twice as thick and will lower your CR a bit. if you want details, take a gander over at nasioc.com and search for "high compression frankenstein" ~Josh~

Just Installed Honda Accord springs
ballitch replied to todda1's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
did you cut about 2'' worth of spring off of the spring? i didnt and i have the same problem. it bounces so much it darn near breaks your neck. i wish there was a better mod for this kind thing, but there really isnt. if you cut the springs, dont use a torch, it will mess up the temper in the springs. instead use a set of decent bolt cutters or a grinder with a cuting wheel on it. im going to do this soon, it is really rough on the neck. ~Josh~ -
well i put impreza seats in my 86' GL, so yes you can, i had to swap the seat rails from the GL to the impreza seats, and drill a few holes, but thats about it. MAKE SURE TO TEST FIT BEFORE YOU THINK YOUR DONE!!!!! caution, thses seats sit up about an inch or so higher off the floorboards. but the bulstering is alot better. ~Josh~

ya man you have 2 whole years of subaru EJ22's to get your hands on. and you can always run the EJ25 off of the EJ22 harness, they're both maf-based systems. if your worried about HG's, when it blows, put in the new 4-layer all steel construction gasket. if your looking for more MPG's, i say go EJ18. it has less power, but it gets better mileage. remember, you can get any EJ22......just swap the engine harness over to the newer EJ22's intake manifold, that means all you have to do is get the car harness from a car that is newer than yours......see what im gettin at? thats what i did, i got a motor from a 96' impreza, and ran it off of a 1990 legacy sedan's wiring. now the impreza motor didnt have an EGR port on the head, but it had the port for the vacuum solenoid on the intake manifold. so i blocked off the intake hole. and i also had to swap throttle bodies. wiring, dont sweat it. i was anxious about it also, not a big deal. take your time and label all the wires coming from the ECU. after that, trace each wire INDIVIDUALLY to where they end up. i cut them and marked each end with white elec. tape and wrote numbers and letters on both sides. after i got all the wires traced, i spliced them back together. only about 50 splices for the whole harness. make sure to save your alternator wiring plug. figure out what wire on your car is the(battery charging wire) and the car harness wire, and finally, the "power is on sending wire" but please search, this post is already too long. ~Josh~

ill have to agree, i think your radiator is clogged, its too clogge to flush, so either youfind a solvent, something that wont eat through your radiator, or you buy a used or new one. you already replaced the thermostat so thats okay. B&R and the other place have cars like yours, youmight have trouble fiding a radiator though, they tend to be pushed into the crank pulley in an accident:brow: ~Josh~

oh dont worry, i plan on pm-ing you once i start my 5 lug swap, speaking of which, i know i need to keep my 5 speed D/R 23 spline tranny axle, with some sort of XT6 ball joint or something, do i take apart the axles, and combine the XT6 balljoint ( the thing that holds the hub and bearings to the thingy that the strut attaches to) i know, i know, i dont have all the suspension parts figured out yet. i think its called the spinndle? anyway, what is the easiest way to get the XT6 5 lug to match up to my 23 spline, N/A, D/R 5 speed tranny? BTW the XT6 ill be using is 4WD. ~Josh~

okay, first of all i hope you got the wiring adapter for your car, it plugs into the factory wiring and has writing on it, like left front +, and ground, and illum, and you get the point. you supposed to hook up the red(power) wire to what ever your JVC stereo wire is. your constant power wire, should be written on the adapter wiring, and your stereo handbook, or on the stereo itself. if you didnt get the adapter wiring thinga-ma-jig, thats what your mising. as far as only being able to adjust faceplate lighting while headlights are on, that stumps me, id have to see it to advise you on it. if you can post pics or give more info. better yet, recheck, triple check, and recheck again your wiring, one wire could mean all the difference on the world. ~Josh~

my advice is segregation, you have a body ECU, keep it. just extract the wires from the harness that im sure you have "wink wink" that make the engine run and make everything kosher, im basically repeating what he said. if you mess up the wiring, you might not find out until you try to fire it up, and if both harnesses are linked into each other, that just opens that many more cans of worms. second thought, how about you try out the naturally aspirated EJ20, use the motor you have but just without the turbo components, it has low compression and power relative to what it has now. after you get tired of that, voila, you still have all the turbo stuff. and that gives you time to figure out some R&D for your turbo install, fitting turbo, intercooler, etc, etc. oh and BTW, its not how many turbos you have, its how many tires you have spinning all at once that matters most!!!! ~Josh~+
