  1. youre joking right?
  2. those wheels are straight up AWESOME. panasports are my favorite style of wheel by far.
  3. great score!!!! that body looks clean. fix it for sure. maybe get a good used motor rather than pay a bunch of money for repairing that one, as the heads are probably warped?
  4. or you can do a shortblock swap like I did. it involves no wiring whatsoever, and I estimate the power to be about 170. you treat the ej25 shortblock as a direct replacement for the ej22, except for the gaskets. the compression will be 10.8:1. while you have the ej22 heads off I recomend gasket match them and do a very mild port job yourself on the casting flaws, as well as remove the restrictors from the exhaust manifold(weld slag on the interior of the exhaust runners). recipe: 1 good condition phase 1(DOHC) ej25 shortblock 1 set of ej25 DOHC MLS headgaskets(multi layer steel, Napa sells them) 1 1990 legacy it is fun and torquey, but not fast by any means. maybe close to a stock turbo legacy.
  5. dont buy it unless the guy is willing to cover the cost of a new trans and diff. even driving it with a mismatched diff is seriously putting the hurt on the whole car.
  6. now paint the rollbar with the same red. that chrome really ruins the look IMHO.
  7. I believe that he meant that the cylinder pressures of the ford 300 straight 6 were approaching what a diesel does. which with 9.5:1 I doubt, personally, but yeah.the 300-6 are a very good motor for a work truck or the like, very torquey moreso than a 5.0 even.
  8. youre not wrong. ej20tt's, ej20g's, and ej20NA's are common imports. how many miles on this rebuild? new seals may take some time to stop leaking so run cheap rump roast dino oil for a while. however maybe you borked the seals on installing them. I wouldnt go with the japanese engines myself, all the ones I have seen were beat to ************(ej20g's).
  9. there are some slugs in the frame rail that you have to drill out, then there are these goofy nuts with a strip of metal attached to them so you can thread them throught the frame rail, so the bolt for the hitch has something to go into. whew. hope that makes sense, but it sounds like you do not have the special bolts. oh, its a big PITA to install.
  10. that red KP61 starlet messed up his control arm too IIRC.
  11. I have been to a rallycross there, it was in a grass field and rutted out very quickly. it was a pretty rough course. so maybe that is what you mean by rally course, I dunno.
  12. I was talking about some sort of engine with potential! I nearly put a note on a 91 justy asking if they would sell the other day, but didnt. I see plenty of them around but they are never for sale.
  13. if you are lazy like me, after you have the headlights polished, rather than clearcoating just leave them bare, and every time you check your oil you can polish the headlights with the oily rag. the oil somehow leaves the headlights looking like glass if your polishing job was good.
  14. anyone ever done some dual 1bbl carbs like kadrons or SU's on a ea81? ie upright manifolds a'la single port VW type 1? the subaru manifold looks like its choking off the motor(if choking off a single port motor is even possible). the color is great.
  15. there are lots of them. www.stockcarproducts.com sells new stuff the used place I forget what its called but google should help you.
  16. cheap does not always equal bad, from what I have seen $300 coilovers arent any better quality than $30 ones, you just pay for a label. next time I do coilovers, I am getting used circle track springs in whatever rate I want for $20 a pop. I'm thinking I will probably go with 250 #'s at all corners.
  17. someone needs to make a shaker hood subaru:headbang:
  18. so what is wrong with the stock EJ management and ignition? adapting old technology when the stock, proven, reliable stuff is so readily available just doesnt make sense to me. I am more of a fabricator than an electrician, but I would still rather wire in a stock ecu and have a nice running clean burning engine that is easy to get parts for than worry about cold starting, vacuum leaks, gummed up carbs, timing off, etc. unless were talking 48IDA webers and a serious MSD ignition, then that is pretty cool. but in that case it will still be a gas hog, need frequent tuning, expen$ive, etc.
  19. thats quite a bit more than I payed, but they seem to be the same general item. you might look at some of the ones for hondas, they are quite a bit cheaper, like 8.99 plus 20 for shipping or something. I bet they are the same exact product with maybe a different top spring perch.
  20. they will go silly low. they are usually silly stiff(mine were labeld 450 and 500lbs). you can find them by searching for "impreza coilovers". I would only run them on an autocross beater, not really street material where the roads are bad. also, they will eat your shocks for breakfast. they killed one brand new AGX within 1000 miles. the handling was incredible. no need for swaybars.
  21. what about toyota frame? they are real strong if not rusty and have one of the better drivetrains. seen complete, solid trucks non running in the 300-400 range. might be easiest to just relocate the rear axle to suit the body? a wagon would be pretty sweet on a toyota frame. is it easy to keep the body low or do you have to like cut out the trans tunnel?
  22. I would go with the VW. they are proven, have a good knowledge base, and are sort of common. at least the 1.6NA diesel. the Isuzu pup or dodge D50 turbodiesels sound cool but I bet they are very rare. a 1.6TD, 1.9TD, or TDi would be the best motor for a subaru. the 1.9TD is available pretty common out of canada, any of the older turbo diesels are pretty hard to find in the US and most are 1.6TD in mk2 jettas a few golfs maybe. there are some mk1 TD jettas, but they are rare as hell. rarer still are the rabbit GTD's, a 4 door turbodiesel with GTi suspension. you can also turbo a 1.6NA by using 1.6TD parts, some of the NA's will have oil squirters and some not, oil squirters are good to have for turning the boost and pump up. you would probably need to use a 1.6TD pump as well. the mk3 cars had the 1.9TD, which is a decent motor as well. if you are rich and/or a genius, you could look for a TDi but they are really complicated and expensive.
  23. I am waiting for the subaru turbodiesels. if they are really cool, they would make a diesel/electric hybrid. chrysler did a diesel electric back in the mid 90's, which in a stratus based concept car, got 73mpg in real driving. imagine modern hybrid and diesel injection technology working together in a car weighing less than 4000 lbs. 100mpg anyone?
