@@@ !!!Subaru Justy!!! need recruits @@@
970subaru replied to Dukie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
+1 to rguyver but justys rule just the same. I believe that they are the lightest production 4x4 available in the US. I would like to do a rwd swap on one, if it would fit. or maybe a motorcycle engine. -
Suggestions on hatch (Now in my garage!!!!!)

for simply rolling a car up on a trailer a come a long will work fine. driving up on the starter motor sounds like fun... -
here is a sweet how to http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27532 I would try and find a toasted center diff to weld up beforehand, make it go a lot quicker. then put on a divorced toyota case and toyota axles

so that is a real RS RA motor? does it have gold valve covers? if it is, you will be AMAZED at the ports. hand ported by STi off of regular ej20g castings back in the day. Ive checked out the set at teh ghetto garage. I bet they flow somewhere on the order of 300cfm, they are that bad rump roast.

Cant find rims to save my life. **FOUND EM!**
970subaru replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Off Road
my dad's 2wd nissan hardbody has 14" 6 luggers. so that may be a place for you to look. as far as no rimz at the junkyard, dont they use them to stack up cars? -
dang how did you manage that?
-
maybe make some sweet coilovers, start browsing suspension stuff here www.stockcarproducts.com

I do believe that is THE wheelsize to run on a brat. now drop the rear down to get rid of that rake.

well, these are 100k mile heads. I suppose I will first test the leakage and then reevaluate. the reasoning behind wanting to do a lap is wanting to change the seals and not wanting to pay a machinist. but, I have not really looked into the labor for a valve job. that is ALL I am willing to farm out on the heads for this build(payed $450 for ej22e head rebuilds 1 year ago).

huh, I thought it was the opposite; electrics are used for torque from a stop. personally I think that in the real world trying to adapt a gas/electric hybrid system to a $1000 car in order to save money on gas on a car that probably already gets 30mpg makes NO sense whatsoever. plus, don't you want something you have faith in when its icy, 15 degrees, pitch black and youre up in the mountains? I agree it would be cool to see if it could be done and all, but would be too experimental to take skiing. but prove me wrong!!! that would be awesome.

you didnt say anything about ea82 2wd:lol: just throwing ideas out there is all. and I thought the turbo ea82 trans and ej trans have the same spline count on the stubs, which is what I was getting at, I thought maybe those DOJ's could be of use though of course the rest of the axle wouldnt. unless they are not in which case I will shut up.
-
so rissan, how about some pictars? also, describe the rear suspension.
-
are fwd axles of any use? in the legacy, fwd axles are significantly stronger which maybe is of use to people with ea82t trans?
-
I have a nice one, its homemade out of a very large C clamp and pieces from one of your crappy autozone compressors! it works very well on stiff motorcycle springs designed to rev way higher than any street EJ motor. scoobaru, good tips thank you sir. but I think I am going to forego the drill trick and just use the hand tool as I do not want to risk compromising the valve guides in any way.
-
anybody ever try cryo treating a ea81 cv axle?
-
30mpg from a regular 4x4 ea81/2 should suit you fine. you will be able to do some killer apres ski donuts in the parking lot too.

so I am thinking that to save a bit of money, I will try and freshen up the 100k mile ej25 SOHC heads I just bought rather than send them off to CCR. the valves/seals do not look to be burnt(surprise surprise). I am DEFINITELY getting new valve springs as I will be putting the hurt on them with a garrett. I do have a compressor. I have had 16v motorcycle heads apart, but never subaru. a few things to discuss: valve grinding compound: how is it done and is it worth my time? chuck up the valves in a hand drill? valve seals: do I need a tool to do it? valve guides: will they even be bad? how to tell? any other general tips for success?

rissan, is you 8v NA? that sounds like a turbo build but you dont list a turbo. if it can take vr6 cars, that is pretty impressive 8v. maybe go down to a 2.25 exhaust? 2.5 is pretty big for a little 4 banger. I wish they had made more 1.6TD mk1's, that would be SUCH the perfect commuter car. I know they made a few mk1 jetta turbodiesels, but no rabbits. even the mk2 TD's are rare, but if its not mk1 or aircooled, I just dont really care about it.

that is one BEAUTIFUL gen 1 you have there. the newer stuff pales in comparison. now go find a bigger jump.
