  1. Not only scary, but very dangerous. Not even enough room to allow 2 cars to pass safely. Ontop of that, i ended up hitting a rock, or a huge pothole, and put a bubble in one of my tires. Looks like I'll be replacing the tires sooner than I thought. -Brian
  2. Was up at Mount Hamilton today with some iClub guys and Nasioc Locals. Got some friends from LegacyCentral.org with me to help me feel in place. The drive was cool. Met up in Sacramento with some locals, then we all headed down to Stockton where we picked up a few more. Almost everybody was in an Impreza of some kind. There were plenty of variations. We then headed on the road from Stockton to San Jose and along the way managed to pickup even more Subarus (yes... you guessed it. WRX's). So yeah... I tried to stay at the front of the pack. I figured, 70+ guys in their 200+hp racecars had to cause some sort of accident. And I'd preffer it happen behind me Luckily no such accident occured. Once we got into San Jose (or close to it) we stopped at some mall. At 1st i thought the mall parking lot was the actuall meet, but it wasnt... just more guys to pickup. So now instead of 70 Impreza's, we're rolling with more like 120 impreza's. I had no idea where we were going, but we ended up on a 2 lane Country road into the hills. When I say 2 lane, i dont mean 2 lane with a dotted stripe... or even 2 lane for that matter. More like 1 and a half Lanes, with a faded double yellow line, and plenty of skid marks to warn you of whats to come. The view was great. We were out of the city, and had a park to hang out at. Met some new people, but not many USMB members. Rumors of some kid wrecking his STi spread around the camp, but it turned out to be more like a brushed bumper and scraped fender. Too bad it ruined the new side skirts his dad bought him. Oh well. Pictures and more pictures available here: http://www.thawa.net/gallery/Mt-Hamilton-7-11-04 and the pix that I took (which are horrible quality): http://usmb.net/gallery/album150 We need to have some sort of meet like this for all USMB members in the bay area. -Brian
  3. You going to be there too Russ?? Now i definatly have to show up Look for me, i'll be in the turbo Legacy hehe -Brian
  4. Im planning on being gone from home from Friday until Monday. -Brian
  5. I came up with some maps for everybody. For those of you leaving From Reno, you can take 395 north and make it to highway 97 which should lead to Hood River: http://wcss.usmb.net/maps/Reno2wcss.htm S'ko, and anyone else leaving from the sacramento area or south of there, have 2 options. We could hightail it on I-5 to Portland, then head east on 84 to Hood River. Or, we could take I-5 to Weed, and take US-97 east and meet up with the Nevada group in Klamath Falls. Sacramento to Portland to Hood River: http://wcss.usmb.net/maps/sac2wcss.htm Sacramento to Weed to Hood River: http://wcss.usmb.net/maps/sac2klamath2wcss.htm The meet would look something like this: As of this moment, im not sure which route im leaning more toward. Taking US97 will only add another hour to the trip. But if I end up leaving late at night, i might just take I5 to save time and B-line it to the show. -Brian
  6. Sure, blocks. You could install EA82 springs, but that would give you more than 2" and a real stiff rear end. You can remove and alter the torsion bar to get another 2" out of it. Its relativly safe and as effective as a block lift. You shouldnt need to lower the rear diff for another 2". -Brian
  7. Scorpion automotive offers a 2" lift. But they're in Australia and s&h will kill the price. You could probably contact any of these lift builders we have in the US and they could probably come up with a simple 2" lift. It wouldnt be hard to get 2" out of the rear torsion bars alone, and then you would just need some small blocks up front. -Brian
  8. S'Ko, im planning on taking I5 to Weed, and I heard there's a highway that intersects in Weed that heads east toward Oregon and 395. If we were to do that, its possible we'd be able to catch up to the Nevada group. Im planning on leaving Friday morning or Friday night. Depends on how the work schedule goes. If I get Friday off, I might be leaving Thursday night, or Friday morning. I still have to pull up some maps and do some more planning. -Brian
  9. Most of the stuff you saw on the newer 71's can be blocked off. The carb you have is identical, but its just as old and prone to the same damage as your carb you have now. -Brian
  10. I dont think that 1400 Manifold will work. You shoulda looked for a single barrel CW or another Hitachi off a newer model. Like a '86 Hatch. A 1400 carb is probably going to have the same problem. Thats probably the reason why that 1400 was in the junkyard. And if you go the weber route the car will never pass emissions. If I can find some time I'd love to stop by and take a look at it. Its odd how these problems developed, I never had any trouble when i had it. Message me if you see me online. -Brian
  11. Does anyone have pictures of their setup? Might be something i'd be interested in on my next rig. -Brian
  12. I wouldnt trust the stock oil pressure guage. Every EA81 Subaru ive had has never gave me correct Oil pressure readings. i end up replacing them with manual oil pressure gauges, which work ALOT better. A simple weber will solve that carb problem too -Brian
  13. Ozified Pro's: Easy to read instructions Every bolt is supplied. Geometry is untouched, without the need of adjusting anything (as far as camber etc...) Time tested and proven. Unlimited support from the USMB incase anything should go wrong Con's: Puts you in a seperate mindset, allowing you to beat the snot out of your Subaru. -Brian
  14. Any junkyard should be able to provide one. If you wanna get rid of that JDM emblem, lemme know. I'd like to add it to my collection. -Brian
  15. take the 39mm and cut a slot in it so it'll fit over the tube. Then use hose clamps to hold it on. Make sure it looks good, and it'll pass. The hot air tube is useless in california, but the smog nazi's need to see it there. -Brian
  16. I had trouble on the rear where the corrosion was bad. I ended up buying a tap to chase all the threads with. You'll find that most of the thread patterns are identical... so the tap I got worked with 99% of all the threaded inserts. -Brian
  17. Yeah, but that brat wasnt on the rubicon. Great photo's, glad to see the oldskool subies got good recognition. -Brian
  18. Got this in the mail. "Valued Customer, Here are the Sale dates for our upcoming Half Price Sale! Everything will be half off it's normal price at all participating locations. July 2-3 Half Off Sale in Carson City & Sparks Nevada< July 3,4,5 Half Off Sale at All U.S. Stores (excluding Nevada) July 10-11 Half Off at all Canada Stores note: Our San Antonio, TX location will not be participating." Kostamojen, you might wanna wait to goto the yard -Brian
  19. Gearing is whats needed for crawling. Our 80hp EA81's will crawl no problem, but the 4spd D/R has to be replaced. Which most have done recently. An engine like this would be better suited in a nice EA81 Coupe, or Hatch to race on some tarmac somewhere And yeah, a turbo would be super sweet on a setup like that. -Brian
  20. You can get a kit for around $100. It will come with the pressure plate, clutch disk, and bearings. Should also come with the centering tool wich is very important to have. Shop around, take the best price and then call Kragen/Schucks/Checkers (whichever you have in your hometown) and tell them the place with the cheapest price and the price you were quoted. They will beat it by 5% and you'll end up with the cheapest kit in town. It'll be 7 7/8" inch if the engine is from a 2WD car. When you go price the kit, ask for a '82 2WD Subaru Clutch kit, because in '83 they changed to the larger clutch for every EA81. If you ask for a '84 2WD kit, you'll still end up with a 8 7/8 disc. -Brian
  21. yeah, those are the best EA81's you can get. But they're built to make peak hp at high rev's, and hold those rev's at high altitude for a long time. Probably not the best for street use unless you like cruising at 6000rpm and dont like shifting. -Brian
  22. You need a readers ride section as well. With viewer submissions. -Brian
  23. Wires dont bother me one bit. you should see my living room!! 5 computers networked, 5.1 DTS surround setup, 3 TV's with cable... all wired, and every wire exposed. Just as long as you remember to lift your feet when you walk -Brian
  24. Steve. When i bought that set of wires it came with eight 90 degree bends and 8 straight bends. There should be four 90 degree bends left, but a couple might have gotten lost. I bought that set like 8 or 9 months ago, and the left overs have been sitting in the garage since. Saturday I'll be wrenching in my garage on the legacy. I gotta get the rear lateral bars in, drop links replaced, and then take it to Clarks Frame for its alignment. I'd love to stop by and take a look at the car, it sounds to me like a simple electronic problem. The carb was showing no signs of failure when i had it, other than the leaks that I fixed. Might be a good idea to locate a 1 piece EA71 intake with a Carter/Weber. Those carbs run about as clean as any carb made. Saturday evening I should have some time, hopefully before the poker game starts. -Brian
