Mine does the same. In the Brat, the voltmeter never shows anything above 12 unless ive been driving for a while. With my blinkers on, the needle will bounce up and down alot. I believe it might be my battery. Ive put 2 alternators in and it hasnt changed. -Brian

Might be able to find someone to trade with. IF you were closer, i would trade my 14" pug alloys for your redrilled toyo rims in a heartbeat. I saw that wagon in person at Johns shop, and those rims are very sharp. Honestly, you have absolutly nothing to worry about. The wieght of the wheel rests on the center of the hub. And as long as your lug nuts and studs are in good condition you really dont have much to worry about. If your that paranoid, the cheaper and probably better option would be to have some new, larger studs pressed into your hubs, and use larger, stronger lug nuts to hold the rims on. That should be enough to hold anything to your car. -Brian

Oh!!! A Baja! I thought he meant like BAHAHHAHAHA (kinda a evil laugh). Are they making turbo Baja's now? I know there's a pic of a lifted Baja somewhere that some custom place did. -Brian -

I know someone who is lifting a EA81 Turbo Wagon. He's in the process of putting a D/R FT4WD 5spd in it as well. Is your friend doing a EA81 or an EA82 Zap? -Brian -
Why do you need to worry, didnt your wagon come with redrilled toyota rims? -Brian

Recommended Plug Wires
TheSubaruJunkie replied to nails24's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here's a pic of the Accel wires and coil in my brat: I dont think i'll ever go back to regular 7mm or 7.5mm wires. And since the V8 set came with 8 wires, i have 4 extra to go into my wagon as well -Brian -
Recommended Plug Wires
TheSubaruJunkie replied to nails24's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got a set of 8mm Accel super stock wires. I had to buy the "cut your own size" set for a V8. Cost me about $27, which is a hell of a deal considering 7.5mm Autolites are usually $30 anyway's. It was very simple to cut the wires to length, and made it look real nice under the hood. Also the wires were yellow, and that helped. I got them when i got my Accel superstock coil, and also regapped my plugs to .050". There is a noticeable difference when the car is climbing through the gears. In 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, i can accelerate alot faster through the gears, in 4th its still kinda sluggish but this is on my EA81 with a 4spd. The magnacore's are a good wire, but i cant find them anywhere except on the net. I was able to buy my Accel's from AutoZone, and i have 4 extra cause I bought a V8 set and only used 4 wires. -Brian -
Anyone else in Northern California? I know of some, but not many. Not sure how many new people we have who are silent. -Brian

I have to drive the brat now, the wagon will be garaged for a while. Contact me through PM, and we'll talk about the details, i have to put a new CV in it tomorrow and drive to Mendocino on Saturday. -Brian -
The border to the sidewalk was a Safeway parking lot. I didnt even realize the post was there until i hit it. I was paying attention to the toyota next to me, i wanted to make sure i had enough room to clear her car. Its not like I drove onto the sidewalk, and hit the pole, the pole was less than 6" from the edge. Had i seen it, i most likely wouldnt have tried it. But yeah, oh well... no hard feelings. Im thinking of painting the front end of my car black anyhow, so im not too conserned if the paint codes dont match. -Brian

Sluggish off Idle, EA81
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, ive already checked for leaks. I will pull the carb off later this week and re-seal it all. -Brian -
My Brat has a problem with acceleration off the line, or if Im driving slightly off idle. It seems sluggish. Kinda like its bucking alittle. If i dont feather the clutch while accelerating off the line, the car will buck and tend to stall out. I just got done replacing both fuel filters, and i re-timed the engine to 12d BTDC, but its still doing it. The car has a new Acell SuperStock coil, and 8mm wires. I gapped the plugs to .050" as well. -Brian

Took the wagon to the off-road park yesterday for a fresh mud bath. After 3 days of rain, we finally had some very very sweet mud to play in. On the way home, I was driving and aproached an intersection. The intersection had a right turn lane, but i wasnt able to get to it cause it was blocked by the Toyota in front of me. There was enough room to go around, but i had to get the front passenger tire up on the curb to make it. Well, as soon as the tire reached the curb, the force of the tire climbing the curb pulled the steering wheel out of my hand, and it made a hard right turn RIGHT into a telephone/light post. One of those 16"-18" diameter wooden posts. The car was still accelerating, and it drove RIGHT INTO the post. Happend before I could even react. No major damage, no injuries and best of all, no damage to anything except my Wagon. Drove to the nearest parking lot, cut away the bumper, removed the fender and drove home. Imagine all the looks I got when people saw this driving down the street: And one more to show just how much fun I had an hour prior to the accident: More pix, of course, here: http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo10 Already have parts lined up. Looks like no structural damage other than the headlight assembly. Shouldnt be hard to buff out. -Brian

YAY! My lift is in! - UPDATE - Installed the Tires today!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Off Road
BYB lifts have absolutly NO camber problems at all. Front or rear, its all 100% just like stock. Dante, the best and easiest way to fix your rear camber is to get some regular rear shocks. Maybe get some EA81 rear shocks, and make extensions like SubaruBrat did. Check out this link from his page: http://www.subarubrat.com/easyshock.htm This is something ive been thinking of doing. -Brian -
I switched from a set of 13" alloys with 175/70's to a set of 13" steel wagon wheels with 185/80's and i could tell a major difference in acceleration. With your EA82, you most likely wont notice at all. -Brian

right now i dont need them, its not that important. Stephen, as a matter of fact... now I have 3 One is yours, just need to find the time to get to Dixon. One other thing Stephen, do you have those wagon wheels I sold you? If your not using them, i might be interested in buying them back. Trooper, i'll be down there soon. Most likely after the 1st of the year. -Brian -
how do ya "re-center" a steering wheel?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to snowstormer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
When i installed my lift, after I was finished i realized my steering wheel was backwards. Same thing that happend to you, but mine was 180 degree's off. I just removed the steering wheel, and put it back on straight. Right now its a tooth off, and its not 100% straight, but its not hard to remove the steering wheel. -Brian -

Yeah, i need 2 lug nuts from a pug, they have to have the cone washer on them. No need for another wagon tho, thanks for the heads up -Brian -
185/80/R13 - Scrape-ing?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Karl's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I ran 185/80's on my EA81, and they didnt rub, but they were real big and made the car sluggish. EA82's are a different story i guess. -Brian -

TheSubaruJunkie replied to Karl's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
185/80's should fit but they will fill your fenders. I would recommend 175/70 or 185/70. -Brian -
need some help, got dead sube
TheSubaruJunkie replied to subawoohoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think youve already narrowed it down to the fuel pump. IF the pump is getting juice, but not pumping anything.... i would think the pump needs to be replaced. -Brian -
Trouble finding rims...
TheSubaruJunkie replied to 86Soobie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Listen to Caleb. You dont have the option of using a 16" or 17" rim unless you change the bolt pattern. Its easier to change to 6 lug than a 4x100 bolt pattern. But 6 lug's are for trucks, and you'd have to get 16 or 17" truck rims in a 6 lug pattern. The 15" Pugs are large enough... why do you need anything bigger?? -Brian
