Don't worry Ed, I noted your sarcasm. That was just one reason I will not be attending.

how to add a snorkal to my 83 gl
Ouch! With a little creativity and imagination you can come up with something functional and not completely ugly.

Detroit Lockers, and Subaru's
Stay away from the muffler shop. What you want is a real welder. Some machine shops have them but the best place to find a welder who can weld a diff is a 4WD shop or store. They know who has the skills to weld up diffs and can recommend someone in the local community. That could also become a benefit down the road when you want bumpers, skidders, sliders or what have you built later.

how to add a snorkal to my 83 gl
http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/search.php?searchid=185279 These are the results of doing a search for "snorkel". You will have to wade through some irrelevant posts but some good info is there. BTW, I got your email and Zap answered the question in your other post.

Especially if you aren't paying attention! Wheeled a BYB/Ozified lift for a year and didn't have any the problems I hear about these days.

ATTN: Shady @ AA
Stores don't have to as they are buying from distributors. Or they are representatives of said distributor. But, I agree, to avoid this type of thing it would make sense to state somewhere that they were an official distributor.

ATTN: Shady @ AA
Give us some credit. If he is the/a distributor it should clearly state that on the page somewhere. I am pretty sure he is a distributor though as pm and emails were flying the second 88Hatchmonster stated he had a plate for sale.

RX without a hatch???
The 3dr truck has been done. Pics on the internet somewhere. Ross in Idaho has the tonneau covered 3dr. He did his for offroad purposes. Didn't want to break the glass in the woods. I'm sure when closed it provides some sort of structural integrity. But Arizona seems the perfect place to remove a hatch. You could remove the hatch and try it before anything permenant(?) is tried

Head Bolt Horrors!
Exactly what I have done in the past. As a matter of fact, I had to do 5 on one engine before. Still holding today without problems. OMG, I have fallen prey to the resurrected post. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! J/K, To answer the last question. I have had good luck finding inserts/kits at NAPA and National auto parts.

New addition to the subie family
I talked to him and said that you won't let him touch it. I agree with you. Stock makes for a nice car for sure. Maybe lower it a bit when it needs new struts. But, I don't know if I would do much else with it. You did good girl!

Good idea, I aways liked that on my old 3dr.

Wear seatbelt while wheeling?
To wear a seat belt or not is a personal choice. A law in most states I believe. The deal is I would rather have it on and not need it then to need it and not have it on. It is a very rare occurrance that not wearing a seat belt has saved a life. I have even started wearing the lap belt on the auto belts. Never bothered with it in the past but I use it for rallying so why not driving? And as far as the STD protection. You don't know who's been there before you!

The annual Hatch Patrol Christmas tree run
That time again. *When: Nov. 26th *Meet at McDonalds in Enumclaw @ 9:30 with a 10:00AM SHARP departure. *Where: Greenwater, Wa. Hwy 410 to FS70 then up into the hills. *Who: Open to all! Subaru and non-Subaru alike. The only real requirement is that you are prepared for snowy conditions. This means you and your vehicle. There will be a couple of pop-ups there. Feel free to bring a propane heater, a camp stove or other provisions for heat and heating water or food. Bring food, drink, etc for yourself and a little extra for everyone else. 4WD is recommened but not required(it will be much more enjoyable if you do). All vehicles must have good tires with prefferably snow tires. Reason for this is we almost lost a vehicle off the edge of the road do to bad tires and too much speed for the conditions. *Permits are required to harvest a tree. They run $10.00/ea and are available through the forest service/ranger stations. I can get a few but they limit how many each person can get. *We generally hangout for a while then head out for trees and snow fun. Here's a couple shots from last year. These were taken right before we left. I think we had around 20 or so cars and trucks up there that day. Post here if you want to go. See ya'!

subaru articulation pics.
We have had a friendly banter going with that club for about 4 yrs now. We run into eachother at many different ORV parks around Washington. They are a good group of guys that can take some razzing.

More snow fun
Yes, they do seem to be very evenly matched. The tires do work well but I also think Swampers would definitely be better. The tires did their jobs, don't get me wrong. There were a couple times that we literally had to claw our ways out of the snow and/or ruts. I'm sure the little stock Bronco II was wishing for our tires about the time they slid off the road.
