Official welcome home get together for Jared
That's a possibility as well. We will definitely need to do something about the air intake before you hit the hobbit trail and roller coaster.

Official welcome home get together for Jared
Well, it's official. Jared will be back in Washington the middle of February. I told him I would get everyone together the second weekend of his return. The first weekend is reserved for his family. February 26th(saturday) either Reiter pit or Evans Creek. I'll let Jared make the call on which. Depends on weather forecast. Evans is probably doable considering the lack of snow. We'll do an all access get together for all. Then, we need to get him in the deep woods to clear the sand from his veins. If we do Reiter then we can meet in the power lines and hang out for a while then do the wall or something. If we do Evans we can meet in the campground and hang out for a while then head into the woods from there. I'll check Evans out this week or weekend to make sure of conditions. Plan on a 10:00am meeting and then a couple of hours to hang out and then a trail run. Probably gonna be more than a stock rig can handle. If we do the wall you'll need at least 3-4" lift and a welded rear diff. If we do Evans the same will be needed as well. Most of the trails have deteriorated quite a bit. Big ruts and alot of off-camber stuff will await you. More details to follow soon.

Uncorrectable Front End Vibration
NO! The driveline is one piece in the Brat. If you remove it and try to drive you will lose fluid out the rear. If the joints are failing you will notice one will be hard to rotate or will not rotate at all. To check for slop you should check them in the car by placing sideways pressure at the joint and looking for movement. Axles are harder to tell though.

snorkle idea....
This is how I did mine. A little crude but extremely functional. Done with PVC pipe and rubber hose in the engine bay and inside fender well.

The absolute best way ever to clean your fuel system?
The best stuff I have ever used is Redline synthetic fuel system cleaner. I used it on an old Chev truck I had. The secondaries were gummed up and not functioning. It cleaned everything right up and never had to do a rebuild on it. I have used it religiously ever since, about 10 years! And recommend it to all who ask.

I'm sure this isn't really what you had in mind but I love showing it off. A member's(King Will) wife drew this for me.

Best All-Round Tires for EA82
They really do work well in the snow, ice and rain that comes with winter. The Ultra Grips are a good "snow tire" but they suck on normal bare and wet roads.

ATTN Mudrat: Check your PM's
I talked to him this morning. He has been swamped. I will pass the word along though.

snorkle idea....
Too many bends to be efficient. Besides, if you think you need a snorkle the grill is the last place you want it! Besides that even, the cops would love you for all the obstructed view tickets they would get to write. Take it out the fender like everyone else.

Need Advice - I Don't trust this mechanic!
Most of the chains are conditioned to sell units rather than repair them. Not really their fault though. A lot of them have been burned repairing them and having them go out shortly thereafter. Replacing the boot will not solve the problem though. All the bellows is is a dust cover/protector. If it is leaking then you have seal problems. I do not know if you can service them without Subaru dealer tools though. Go see Steve at Steve's Pacific Import Repair. His number is 253.536.0389. He is open Tuesday through Saturday. He does Subaru specifically and should be close to you. Tell him Ken sent you and he will take care of you.

Best All-Round Tires for EA82
The best all round tire I have used is the TOYO Ultra 800 Touring Radial that Les Schwab sells. This tire is GREAT in the rain and very decent in the dry. A little spendy but not horrible. They don't really hydroplane either. We have some pretty heavy rains and these don't pull or drift in puddles or grooves in the road. We have them on my Wife's Legacy and my son's Impreza. They are available in 185/70R13 and 175/70R13 depending on your model. Good luck.

Faithwheelers Off Road Obstacle Course June 25,2005
I'll be out of town that weekend. Besides, with the show being the following weekend I doubt if something got broke there would be time to fix it. The Subaru show is much more important to me!

I saw them. Not mine and don't need them. They are 390mm and not 15" though.

I'm officially a Soobie freak
I am not sure the pedal box will go in without modification. I believe there was something different besides the clutch cable. Unfortunately, I can't remember what it is.

That wasn't neccessarily pointed at you. I stated it because alot of people who do not know the difference also read these posts. Rubicon has very similar terrain, granite and such. Very good traction but the off-camber stuff associated with rocks, mountains and deserts are why the welded rear diff is superior. The biggest thing you will notice is that you no longer need momentum to get through obstacles. You will find reasons to gun it but it won't be the normal stuff. That means less damage to the vehicle. More enjoyment for you and your passengers. As far as breaking goes, I broke 3 or 4 axles and a couple of stubs in 4-5 years of hard wheeling. I have only broken 1 axle since i went to the welded diff. A good, tight LSD will offer benefits just not as many as being welded.

Lynnwood? Were those the ones sitting against the fence?

After replacing the one I broke I never broke another thing on that trip. I believe the replacements held up fine as well. We did break a couple of axles though. Axles and stubs are usually easy to replace. 15 minutes and I was trail bound again. The issue with open and even LSD rear diffs is that when 1 tire loses traction that wheel gets all the power. With an LSD the tire that binds is released and then the tire with the least amount of traction gets the power. I ran a LSD for 4+ years and swore by them until I tried a welded diff. The other thing to keep in mind is the weight factor. The Sube doesn't weigh much so the wear is not as bad.

good tires for my 88 gl
Being new as you are I would really suggest reading through the Frequently Asked Question section. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24980 It will help to answer most if not all of your questions. It was written by a very knowledgable Subaru Offroader.

Not a problem!! That would make a HUGE difference. If you had, you both would have made it through for sure!

Nice! Do either of you have welded diffs? Bumper skins always peel like that. I have seen a number of them do that. Looks like a fun place to wheel. I've ben jonesin' to go lately, so, I guess we'll have to get out next weekend.
