Conversion and repair questions
calebz replied to Hogsubie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The Auto to Manual 4wd conversion is pretty easy. Just did it on my 87 a few months ago You will need: Tranny(duh) flywheel clutch kit w/ TO bearing tranny x-member manual pedal assembly Shifter assembly maual center console piece You might need the drive shaft.. don't know if manual and auto are different.. my car was an auto, but was a shell when I got it.. no driveshaft Hillholder is optional.. I was short on time, do I didn't install it.. I live in NE TX now, so it isn't any big deal.. no hills Depending on which manual tranny you use, you made need the 4wd solenoid that mounts on the drivers side strut tower I think thats everything. I will update the list If I think of anything else -
Off an RX.. wrecking yard, or board member
-
RX body kit is about the only bolt-on available, that I am aware of.. you can get a cold air intake from http://www.subspeed.com if you don't mind spending more than I have for any of my soobs, or you can get creatice and make your own.. hardest part being finding an adapter to go on the MAF
-
Well... If todd and tim can make it, I'm definitely in.. if they can't, well.. I'm probably still in:D I have to admit, there isn't much I need from the yard, I was in need of a dist, egr solenoid and a heater ballast resistor pack, but I unpacked some of my stuff in the garage this weekend and found all three of those things.. Lucky me! But there's always the possiblility of finding a good deal on a D/R or something equally cool Shall we determine a meeting time/place? Imagine.. all 5 north texas subaru owners all in one place. What a spectacle that would be

Hmm.. sounds like it could be fun.. went to some Ft Worth wrecking yards last weekend.. there was a "all you can carry for $25" at dismantlers 2000.. absolutely, bar none, the worst wrecking yard I have ever seen. The ad said "we specialize in late model domestics and imports" went there looking for some parts for my camry apparently their definition of late model domestics and imports is 6 acres of late 80s/early 90s tauruses(tauri?) and Thunderchickens.. with a little space about 3000 square feet for a couple of saabs and one completely stripped legacy You have a brat?.. and you didn't tell me? email me your number, I lost it.. again

93 loyale starter probs! HELP HELP HELP
calebz replied to naterkane's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check fusible links . the are in a little black box on the drivers side .. attached to the coolant recovery tank -
Suspension parts.. what exactly do you want? lift? lower? higher spring rate? engine performance.. the lack of available aftermarket stuff limits this, but there are a few things you can do.. question is, what do you have? carb? spfi? mpfi? turbo? the answer to that will make a little difference on what is available. Hub conversion. you can get rear discs for you car, but which hubs you use will depend on whether the car is 4wd or 2wd. you can also modify the hubs for use with 6 lug wheels. or you can do an xt6 swap so as you can see, no one can really answer your question very well.. there is not enough info supplied abouit what you already have and what your goal is. After you figure out what you have and what you want, do a search. everything you want has probably been covered at least twice.

Changing Ride Height on Brat
calebz replied to DPDISXR4Ti's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Get the adjustable struts from an 85-6 4wd car.. they will bolt right in.. however, if I remember rght, on my 90 loyale the shocks/struts were the same heights as the adjustables on my 88 when they were cranked all the way up -
whats your rpm @ 70?.. mine sits comfortably at 3200 or so.. if you think the 5 spd is bad, try the 3AT.. 400-4100 @ 70.. yuck
-
You can check your voltage by simply putting voltmeter leads on the battery posts while the car is running.. should come out about 14v or so
-
I'm working on a pic or 2.. digicam is being problematic.. bout time for a new one

ummmm ..... wheres the EGR selenoid?
calebz replied to oregonloyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
passengers side on top of the intake manifold.. there are 2 solenoids one is th EGR, the other is the Purg Valvw Solenoid.. -
Been a while since I've had one like that, but it seens to me that with the proper combination of extensions and wobblies, that you don't need to move anything
-
Which is closer to the battery, your AC, or your alt? If your alt is closer to the battery, you don't need to move anything to get that plug out.. helps to have a wobbly though
-
That one is an 87.. It did run.. I drove it about 100 miles before I started stealing parts off of it.. didn't steal anything too big.. starter, disty, AC pulley.. stuff like that.. all the SPFI stuff and the block and all is still complete..Over all its still a good motor.. leaked a bit of oil though

RE: adjustable struts, 87 GL wagon
calebz replied to mtsmiths's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The manual adjustable ones that wagonsonly is referring to is EA81 only. For EA 82, as far as I know, only 85 and 86 had adjustable struts/shocks.. fronts had two nuts, one on either side of the strut, rears had a ratcheting adjustment -
That is where the recirculation button goes, I believe.. Mine doesn't have it either
-
Gee, You sure are impressed with yourself:-\ Perhaps we could all be humbled by some pics or video of your offroad prowess

Nope.. no difference in spline count for autos between turbo ans N/A.. found that out the hard way when I went to use the axles out of my turbo auto on my turbo 5 spd.. surprise!! wrong spline count.!! What is different about the turbo and N/A auto axles is the strengthening points in the shaft itself.. turbos have 3( I think) little weld bumps, whereas N/A only has one or two(not exactly sure for how many.. never done axles on an N/A soob)

Skip. I love your dash.. way cooler than my 87 turbowagon dash Can you give us a breakdown of what all that stuff is. And .. how did you make the insert that fits over the passenger side of the dash.. I like that.. good place for guages and turbo timer and such -
