  1. Welcome to the USMB. Something sounds a little fishy there. Unless they have drastically changed designs on the 2000+ Legacies, it should take less than an hour for a good tech change the sway bar bushing, and certainly not cost that much. Any chance you could try and take a picture of under the car at the suspension to see if we might see something. Also, is that price to replace front and rear sway bar bushings?
  2. Welcome to the USMB. If the canister purge solenoid code is coming up, I'd suggest replacing the solenoid. It can cause some weird things to happen, but I don't know if it'd be causing all the problems. But like I said, start with that first. I'd also suggest checking the codes yourself. It's very easy to do. I've got instructions on my site. http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html
  3. The cam & crank sensors are wired backwards between the non-turbo & turbo engines. If I understand how you did the wiring, all you should need to do is swap the positive pins for the cam & crank sensors. Have you checked the wiring for all pins at the ECU to make sure they have continuity to the sensor they are supposed to be wired to?
  4. The fresh air door is behind the glove box. If you remove the glovebox you should be able to see the door and the cable.
  5. First thing I would probably check is that he reinstalled all the connectors properly. He may have taken something apart and forgot to put it back together again. I don't see how else the error codes could be related to the work....assuming nothing else didn't get screw up.
  6. Auto or manual trans? If auto, what happens if you put a fuse in the FWD fuse holder?
  7. Welcome to the USMB. You may want to try the meet & greet forum as well. If you don't get any info there, you may want to check out the regional forums on NASIOC http://forums.nasioc.com/forums There's quite a few Subaru owners in the area, and they can probably recommend a mechanic.
  8. I don't know if you're going to be able to modify the FWD shifter assembly to work on your AWD. I'd probably suggest going and trying to find one for an AWD car.
  9. Yeah, I'm rather cautious who I have in my garage, and lock everything up when I'm out of town. Got way too much crap in there.
  10. Here is the diagram for the 90-94 Legacy. http://main.experiencetherave.com/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/Legacy_headlight_wiring_diag_(US).zip A switched ground setup means that only one power source is fed to the common pin on the headlamp, and that two separate grounds are then fed back through the switch. I think you'll understand once you see the diagram.
  11. I actually like this concept......I'm sure it will be bashed/torn apart and yuckified before it hits the masses.
  12. I'd tend to agree with 0B99W. You may need a better meter. The chances of both TCM's being bad are pretty slim. Anything can happen, but chances aren't too great.
  13. Subaru uses a switched ground headlight setup. I don't have any diagrams for the forester, but hopefully someone will be able to help you out.
  14. PDF's are not one of the allowable file extensions to upload. Email the brochure and I will host on my server.
  15. The pics in your link are for a clutch based LSD. The VSLD are sealed units and use a silicone based fluid with the torque transferring coupler.
  16. Carfax is probably the way to go. You could see if someone else with an active carfax account could run it for you.
  17. My 97 OBS howls pretty good in all gears. Those year transmissions may have had issues. I'm just going to run it until it dies......if it does.
  18. If you are having temperature related starting issues, I'd suggest replacing the coolant temp sensors. These cars have no problems starting in very cold temps when everything is working correctly. The coolant temp sensor can drastically affect cold starting ability.
  19. Yes there is a little switch at the brake pedal. If you look down there, you should see it. Make sure all the connector is connected and the wires look good. If everything looks good, I'd probably suggest replacing the switch.
  20. Don't the newer TB's have the IAC valve on the TB....If so, I think you're going to run into issues.
  21. A properly working rear VLSD will spin both wheels at the same time, even if you just jack up the rear wheels and spin them. There should be no "ramp up" time heat up the silicone fluid inside the coupler.
  22. You need to swap the entire throttle body. I'm not sure if the 3-wire throttle body will bolt up to the 93 ej22. Sensors, are the crank & cam triggers the same between the two engines? Was your EJ25 a DOHC or SOHC?
  23. Hmmm....that does sound a little funky. Probably as you indicated a wire inside the transmission. But without digging inside it'd be hard to verify and test. Is the temp sensor internal or external to the transmission?
  24. If you've replace the TCM, the wiring from the TCM to the temp sensor, and the temp sensor itself.....I can't see your problem being any one of those three. I would check your grounds. Is the temp sensor a 1-wire or 2-wire sensor? The 1-wire sensors ground through the trans and if the grounds are not right, that may cause a problem.
