My EJ22T swap.......and a few issues
Hmmm, I'll check it out. My print out is for a 90 and it shows no connection for that pin. I checked the #20 ECU pin and it didnt even have a wire in the plug. The ECU and harness are from a 92 MT SS Legacy. I checked all the grounds from the ECU and its all good. This is getting frustrating :-\

My EJ22T swap.......and a few issues
Throttle cable is adjusted correctly. But looking at the pin outs for the ECU, all I see are AT inhibitor switch and the neutral safety switch.

My EJ22T swap.......and a few issues
Well, I'm still having a problem with the high idle. I hooked up the VSS and it didnt make any difference. I'm thinking of changing out the ECU tomorrow and see if that works.

back on the board and old gen section
Welcome back Brad, good to see you still have the RX. Anything new?
-
It's back!
I checked that site and all the parts are generic, nothing is Subaru specific. And this is where you all should be posting and looking for info on our problems. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=113152

My EJ22T swap.......and a few issues
Back on the road again This time it feels much better, but I still have the high idle issue. Who can tell me where the reed switch is on the inst panel? I cant find anything in my 86 FSM, I need something newer. Heres a few pics of the work I did this round. Stripped the intake and cleaned it Cut off the heatshields around the headers. Had to on one side, just to get the nuts off the head Cut off the mounting points for them, ground them down and sprayed with hi temp paint. Almost ready Also had a broken engine mount, got that fixed. A lot of you know I'm pretty anal about cleaning stuff, I've gone thru several wire wheels using my cordless drill. I just bought a new one, this time from Home Depot. The sucker was stiffer than a .......... you know. It kept grabbing on edges and getting loose, a few times raking my arm. I ended up making a gauntlet out of a jean pantleg and duct taping it to my arm. But it doesnt work if you dont wear it Also had a couple of issues when I went to start it. It wasnt starting so I pulled the plugs to check for fuel. Number one plug looked like this I gapped them and put them in after the heads were on, so I have no idea how it happened :-\ Then I wasnt getting any fuel. Tracked that down to nothing in the tank:rolleyes: The gauge showed 1/4 tank, so thats another one that made me scratch my head.

1989 RX Turbo - running like crap - need help
How did you have it checked? I have one from my old setup.

Any luck with Brat calipers on rockauto?
You have vented rotors, right? If they were the wrong ones, they would not have fit.
-
ECM compatibility? and label translation please
I believe he fixed his problem. Make sure you check post dates before replying. This one is 4yrs old.

1989 RX Turbo - running like crap - need help
How much new gas have you run thru it? Timing could be a issue as well. Make sure all the ground wires in the engine compartment are clean and tight, as well as the main harness connections.

My EJ22T swap.......and a few issues
It did cause a timing issue, but it happened after I fixed a lot of other stuff and had it running good. I'm not sure how it happened, but I was on a 50mi run to a breakfast and wasnt being hard on it. It overheated right when I pulled into the parking lot and I filled it with a gal of water before hitting the road again. It was running rough at idle, but fine when the boost kicked in. It got progressively worse and I parked it. That was almost a month ago. When I installed the new t-belt I didnt notice if the pulley was loose, I didnt remove it either. I'm waiting on HG/intake gaskets right now, but in the meantime I'm doing my usual "cleaning"
-
My EJ22T swap.......and a few issues
Ok, had to pull the engine due to rough running and leaking oil out the HG's. This is what I found on the passenger head camshaft. I put a new t-belt on it before the install and didnt notice anything wrong with it. But at least I have another head to replace it

SVX idle issue
Turbone replied to NWSubie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX^^^This. Could be a dirty MAF or IAC. You can buy the MAF cleaner at a parts store, its made specifically for it.

compressing TB tensioner w/o a vice??
Turbone replied to tricked919's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust did this today with a c-clamp. Do not mash that rod in, it needs to go slow and easy like said above. The hard part is finding a pin strong and small enough to fit in the hole. I used a small allen wrench.

So really... how much?
EJ22's are a dime a dozen, finding one with low mileage is just a tad harder. Finding a good EJ22T is another story I wasnt really looking, but when the deals came around I jumped on them. $300 for a long block and harness, plus some other stuff to go with it. $300 for a cut harness, ready to go. Also got a bunch of other stuff with the deal, which I sold and recouped some $. My flywheel I already had (XT6) and I did some trading with Scott to get it redrilled. The adapter plate I traded a set of EA82 rear discs for. Misc other stuff I got, but doesnt add up to $1k total. I have waaay less in this build than my previous EA82T, and I'm already collecting parts for building a hybrid engine (300hp+) Wheel and deal baby

So Really, how many started a ej swap and never finished it
Wheres Caboobaroo? In his defense tho, he hasnt quit. Its just taking forever.

Holy subaru god's
With only 97k on the clock, I dont think he's going to have any issues for quite a while. Especially if he does some preventative maintenance. Granted, I wouldnt have forked out that much cash for it, but you clowns really need to get off the EA82T hate wagon. I hope you 2 come to WCSS12, I'm going to bring a bag of lemons so's you can sit at a table and suck on em
