90 Loyale prewired for rear speakers?
Skip replied to dptyrob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Deputy, Here is a thread that may help It discusses the speaker config and how to work around the common to both rear speakers wire problem (it is not grounded) Note: it can be done without running all new wires into the back doors. Hope this helps Speaker wiring -
GL is spot on the two items are almost apples and bananas EA81T --- basic inductive pickup used for creating spark only EA82 SPFI -- crank angle sensor, the ECU uses it's output for injector firing and spark control. gear swap- inverted with new hole in shaft for locking it Ear needs lopped off. I have the entire package - planning on doing the convertion this summer - I will try it on my 85 Brat. My 86 is running so good with the Weber, I hate to mess with it. Good luck please keep this post active.

93 Loyale SPFI Grief !!!!!!!!!!!
Skip replied to subpennyman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sub, thank Miles he took the time to write and document the proceedure. He deserves the credit. I am at a loss as to why it will not run with the green "test mode" connectors connected. Have the dark colored connectors been found?? My only guess is the ignition timing is so far off that when the ECU (with the test connectors connected) tries to set the timing it stalls Did you by chance have the distributor out? -

correction although I am not into using all caps I am sorry do not use Restore in turbo engines I did not see the turbo model mentioned untill you said down pipe Metal shavings my hind foot, get a grip Scooby If that were true the oil filter would stop them. But here is an excerpt on using Restore in turbos There are certain brands of additives that make the claim that they'll "stop engine smoking" amongst other things. Now the way these work as I understand it, is by having some form of resin in solution form in the oil. The idea is that where the cylinder bores have become scored over years of use, oil is squirting past the piston rings and into the combustion chamber where it is being burned, hence the smokey engine. This resin makes the oil slightly thicker which helps it to seal those tiny scores whilst still lubricating the cylinder bores. The problem comes when this resin solution gets extremely hot - it turns hard. With most turbo systems, the bearings on the turbo get extremely hot, and the way around this is to use the engine oil to lube the bearings whilst at the same time transporting the heat away from them. When the additive finds its way into the turbo bearings, it can solidify and seize the turbo. Again sorry for the mis-info make sure you get an OEM PCV valve -

Good call 85Sub page 159 of the part 2 download says MPFI but is for the hot wire turbo also (note the waste gate control duty solenoid) well done sir. -
Perpetual Running Electric Cooling Fan
Skip replied to dmpthree's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ive never had one fail like that?? most burn open from too much current guess they could weld closed though simple to pull the wires off of it and check. sorry no relay involved with the thermoswitch the relay is for AC control of the fan the fan should run anytime the AC system is engaged (like in defrost mode) are you sure the defrost button is not pushed? -

Tom, if you will read the entire thread you may find this does not apply to your system Working on the ther scans since no one has come to the rescue how about emailing me to save me uploading them -
Raven, thanks for the heads up I didn't know that I attempted to fix the fox paw Apologies to DK and Baggy learn something every day or the day is wasted i.e. "you must cook your hamloaf thoroughly"

Good call Cab... Patrick, If the smoke does not abate. "Restore" can help a ring problem it could also be a stuck ring. but The EA82T has a fairly straight forward PCV system. It does have a direct connection to the intake tract infront of the throttle body. I would replace the PCV valve. IT MUST BE A OEM PART. There have been many many reports of after market PCV valves not being able to control the positive manifold pressure properly. Good luck, hope it's a simple fix -
EA82T upgrade to spyder intake
Skip replied to 88GL10T's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Lots of Q's very few A's Lets see I have heard that the spider intake from the XT is what i want to look for is this true? yes what years? The switch occurred mid year of 1987 turbo or n/a? Turbo preferred both can be made to work what parts need to come with it? throttle cable and bracket, dog bone (pitching stopper) ps mount, AC comp mount do i need to use the fuel injectors? depends of if you find a turbo or na do i need the ECU? no what about the throttle body? yes Will it bolt right in? yes what size is it compared to my intake? ?? Please refine this question The intake tracts have a larger volume as there is one per cylinder. Sideline: If you look at the newer Subaru engines (EJ series) you will see there is a remarkable resemblance Do I need tell you why?? Note: Parts in question, wiring harness, TPS, EGR system Hope this covers your Q's with a little more precise set of A's -
Ben You might be advised to contact Mudrat79 he posted this on a thread about using our 4EAT's in rear wheel drive " I can tell you that In 50/50 mode, you still don't get a true 50% to the rear.....When I set My trans up to run this way, and Was running just the rear drive line and No front Axles, the thing wouldn't climb over a 6" curb on its own... I had to go inside and Play with the Valve Body for the rear clutch pack to get it to do 50/100 % to the rear........ Then it Climbed... ." Good luck sounds like fun

JH Subaru hierarchy lesson 101 You might want to Look at the base vehicles from the underside. Outback's are built on the Legacy chassis read heavy Foresters are built on the Impreza chassis read not so heavy. Just some info for a newbie. I have owned several of each. Legacy is the comfy cruiser. But I implore you DO NOT drive a VDC H6!!! .

TS, You did ask -- what's next? I guess what I am trying to say is the phrase "Dead Piston" Is a bit nebulous. 0 psi could mean several things but the only way I know to come up with a bagel in the comp test is 1) a valve hung wide open 2) a big hole in the piston Both of which are rare. #2 would cause blowby of the 10th degree So much it could blow seals out of the block If you removed the oil fill cap (I see it's been replaced) the "huffin' " coming out would astound you. Please request a leak down test. Then you will know where the problem lies. As I said very nice car, good luck.

also could be the contact points for the headlight switch These are located in the light switch pod If you would like to investigate go here http://www.xt6.net and perform a search for headlight switch contacts

do youself a favor and read Miles' proceedure Timing belt replacement EA82 It should help solve this riddle -
some tin's phishy Why didn't the mechanic who diagnosed this perform a leak down test? That is one B-U-Tit-Full Hatch. Ya can't beat Shawn's offer shipping might be more than the cost of the lump. then sounds like you will have to pay to have it installed. clutch and pp ect you puttin' away a grand to finish this project? what will it be worth to you when your are done? I am a simple man I tend to look at life the same way. Good luck may the Power of the Pleiades be with you.

symptoms point to bad bushings in the distributor see if the shaft wobbles connection to knocking? maybe the drive gear is knackered and it locking up flex plate flex?

Ty, you need to specify which fuel system mass air flow monitor your EA82T has. Up to 1986 they had a vane style MAF (also called "flapper door") in 1987 they switched to a hot wire MAF the systems are different wiring wise see recent post "EA82T"
