December 6, 201213 yr Will throw that in the vault for next time. Got the bolt off after sawing it but what a PITA. A vice would help, too.
December 6, 201213 yr Will throw that in the vault for next time. Got the bolt off after sawing it but what a PITA. A vice would help, too. Considering the shock slide tube doesn't go all the way in to the canister when compressed, you can grind or saw down a little near the top to get a better grip on it and it'll still be usable.
December 8, 201213 yr Just threw new ORG sealed wheel bearings, seals, outer tie rods and ball joints... No more crazy vibrations! And fyi, the LBJ were still semi-tight, but had torn boots. Gotta love FHI stuff! Still had the stamp on the lower ball joint housing.. Lol
December 9, 201213 yr Pulled the ac evaperatofrom under the dash in my 89. Was glogged up so bad no air could pass through. Now the heat works great.
December 12, 201213 yr Rain-x'ed the glass, new and better rain-x wiper blades, and gave the blue beast a bath. (even though it's winter and the rain probably won't stop for months).. and have any of you tried that rain-x anti-fog stuff?
December 12, 201213 yr Rain-x'ed the glass ... have any of you tried that rain-x anti-fog stuff? Yes, I used RainX on my Wife's car Windshield, years ago, the A/C wasn't workin' and it Helped to keep it Clear on Rainy season.
December 15, 201213 yr Caught the girl who hit my BRZ and left! The timing was amazingly lucky Also, hoping to install a CB & 90A alt in the brat this weekend
December 16, 201213 yr My mechanic got the rear bearing done, rear brakes still sound awful and the engine decided to shred something inside. 308k and its gone from nickel and dime to all out dollar ripping. But there's too much into the car to let it die now. Twitch
December 21, 201213 yr Thanks to the guys at Oak Leaf Auto Salvage for awesome service, got me a new radiator in two days! Put it in last night and works wonderfully.
December 21, 201213 yr I fixed the sloppy shifter on my 4 speed using GDs method with a 3/8"x16 tap. While I was there I also fixed the rattling with a new nylon "cup" at the lower pivot. I also swapped the rounded style shift knob from my 81 wagon. I am amazed at how much shorter the shifter feels, and its nice and tight too.
December 21, 201213 yr I fixed the sloppy shifter on my 4 speed using GDs method with a 3/8"x16 tap. Nice idea! Was there a trick to getting the original pin out? I've been wrestling with mine forever.
December 22, 201213 yr New drive belts last week. :-\ Alt/PS one exploded sometime on the highway while driving home from work. Noticed it when I went to make a right turn sans power steering. Could not tell that the alt and brake light were on due to the sun shining on the gauges. Dean Edited December 22, 201213 yr by doc526
December 24, 201213 yr bought a 50 dollar wagon have big plans for it.. or rather tall plans for it:brow:
December 27, 201213 yr This is on a 08 OBS - Yesterday, changed plugs (NGK Laser Platinum), air filter (Sub OEM), main drive belt (Sub OEM) and AC drive stretch fit belt (Gates Micro-V stretch fit). Today, replaced oil and filter (Castrol Edge and Bosch Distance Plus). Need to do brakes, flush brake fluid, and replace coolant soon. Will swap out cabin air filter tomorrow, and pick up a gallon of Subaru LL (not super blue) coolant for the coolant flush. Car has 49850 miles and chugging along nicely.
December 27, 201213 yr Sold my 1999 outback sport today with 47k on it. Last week I picked up a 1997 legacy outback with no rust. In the last week I have swapped in a 2.2 with new seals (crank, cam, valve cover), and all the timing belt goodies, new clutch, new knock sensor, swapped in a good used radiator, all new brakes, forester wheels, studded snows, replaced a couple bad sections of the exhaust, and replaced rear deckled shocks!
December 27, 201213 yr Drove it in snow for the 1st time since I got it. Just running FWD right now, as I need to replace u-joints for the driveshaft. Taking off wasn't to much of an ordeal, but trying to apply any throttle was something different. It'd spin the tires very easily. About 3" of snow on the roads, greasy stuff it were.
December 28, 201213 yr Put the winter shoes on. Winterforce 205/70/15 i have the same tires same size on my loyale...LOVE em
December 28, 201213 yr New tip... Someone had the bright idea of giving me a gift card to autozone... Lol so I got a new 2.25 to 3" exhaust tip to go with my 2.25" straight pipe purrs like a kitten.. -Justin
December 30, 201213 yr Made some headway with my lift.. 2.5ish lift. I took this snap before the car had a chance to settle.. -Justin
December 30, 201213 yr Replaced the head gaskets and timing belt. Ran then put it the rest of the way together then nothing. Crud!
December 30, 201213 yr The sun actually came out, so I blasted all the nasty winter crust off the subaru and cleaned her up... Then we left for the tri-cities, and got her all dirty again
December 30, 201213 yr Went digging into the XT6's cooling system thinking I had a bad t-stat or H20 Pump - turned out it was just very low on coolant. Appears the radiator cap had gone bad and was letting all the coolant out to atmosphere instead of the reservoir.
December 30, 201213 yr Installed a 2" lift and bought 5 14" Peugeot rims for installation of ~25.5" tires on my 1987 GL-10. Should give an overall "improvement" of 3.5 to 4.0 inches. Also, completely tearing down and rebuilding an EA82 turbo motor after losing a rod bearing. Replaced original push-button transaxle with dual range 4WD from an SPFI model.
