  1. For a 2.0 liter, it is going to scoot at only 2500 pounds, and with the engine 4" lower than usual. Think 50/50 weight, and LOW center of gravity, won't even have body roll in tight corners. Also, should get pretty decent mpg. Not sure any other 2.0 will handle anywhere close to as well.
  2. it is subie 4 lug pattern. what is it?
  3. the back of the am fm has a input for accessory tape deck which was a option. It sent signal to the amp in the radio. So, just tap into that input from the wire hanging in the back. simple. it is a left and right input.
  4. just tap into the tape input connector right?
  5. something with the choke or carb? maybe it is not opening fully when warm.
  6. messed with this today put the rear bumper on. tried to start it. smoked a wire that wasn't supposed to be 12v was supposed to be ground hookup. sent one subaru off to be crushed.
  7. subaru timing marks are really easy once you have done a few. i like how the factory put dots, dashes, and arrows on the cams to confuse the normal mechanic.......makes it interesting and a good way to buy a car for cheap when the said mechanic doesn't have a clue to use arrow or dash or dot...
  8. thought this was pretty good for a Brumby, a hard trail and a Toy that didnt do any better. Go Brumby.
  9. watched full video. I am nitt picky, should have gloves on and a full fire retardant suit.....just my advice. didn not have fire suit on...
  10. want to add my pic of my 85 BRAT Gl still wearing factory applied paint on all body panels.
  11. if you had asked about 98 forester vs 98 outback, the answer would be no, due to all foresters had a oil cooler on the engine, but the facts for 2001 I just do not know
  12. ?? hard to tell what you are trying to say, if you have lots of lights on, then alternator had died. If you have a few lights on, then the car was flooded in water and dash and electronics are fried. If you have only one light on, then there is a malfunction of that system. What light is lit on your guage cluster?
  13. IMO, people buy these cars and right away get into them way over their heads. The appeal is they can be bought so cheap. But the associated repairs cost more than any youngster typically can afford, for what the car is, a pos. I don't think this is any way shape or forma good car for someone just learning cars. The engine is crap, and once overheated, even more crap. You are better off to sell it for scrap or sell the good parts, and move on up into a first gen legacy or first gen impreza. Before long, you will have 1000 dollars in newparts on this, and it will still not be reliable. Do not spend a dime more on it, sell parts off it, call it a wash and buy something trouble free like the legacy or impreza, mentioned by others here too.
  14. got some new front struts for the BRAT, only 44 bucks total for 2 new shocks. to my door, for brand new ones. why do people pay more for used ones? thanks brent/
  15. grumble. BRAT oil leak got much worse. Still made it to KC and back. Either rear main, or oil pan are my first 2 thoughts after sticking my head under it. At least oil level did not get low. going to clean it up and see what i think and whether it is worth even fixing now or just wait it until spring. If oil pan, i will easily have that fixed this weekend. probably shouldn't have used the cork pan gasket last time. hopefully that is what it is, but i am iffy.
  16. "Other than one rip in the driver's side door, the interior looks practically brand new. A/C blows cold, Cruise Control works, nice Sony stereo and CD unit, seems like overall mechanically the vehicle is in good shape." Well, the fact is, they made these 90-94 models to last. I have rarely seen interior wear on any of them even in the junkyards, they just are built really solid, which is why so many of us recommend that era. And, you can just run it til the Tbelt snaps, then do a new t belt kit and go another 200k on the engine, no hg's no tod, no rod knock, no piston slap etc...not on the first gen tanks.
  17. Has a tuner right? How is the AM and FM reception on pulling stations? clear, or static. bh
  18. if they were worried about being cramped, they could have purchased two Subaru's at $5499 each, and still be cheaper than the $12,500 price of the Wagoneer, and had one person drive each Subaru, spreading the gear out over the 2, it sure wouldn't be cramped that way, and they could have bought 1000 worth of spirits, and still had 500 dollars left for a hooker, and lots more fun than what the Wagoneer provided......
  19. someone previously put ATF in there, i checked and my gear oil in there is still perfect gear oil.......at least I know what fluid goes where...
  20. what transmission do you have, auto or 5spd? if auto, could be cracked flexplate. Could be heat shield rattle or and exhaust bracket. could be a timing bearing component going bad could be waterpump could be power steering pump. etc.
  21. yeah good thing. as long as it not stuck. pin hole on end to press, in oil bath, to check and bleed air
  22. ea81 blinks all the time to show it is got now codes. I think i t bllnks a code for the year of vehicle at first, then if no codes, blinks all the time,
  23. oh no. its the time of year things break when the temps start to cool off. Also the time of year stray cats take shelter within the hood where it is warm. first check is the alternator belt as mentioned. Hopefully that is what happened. hopefully cat is ok
