  1. Could explain both problems. The exhaust gases have to do somewhere.
  2. Make sure you bench bleed it before installing.
  3. I checked Rockauto and there the 607008 is listed for the manual transmission and 607009 fits the automatic so you are correct.
  4. If just the rear housing is cracked, which usually is the case, it can be fairly easily replaced. Much easier than replacing the transmission.
  5. Real longshot but check to make sure the transmission wiring harness is all connected. Sort of between the firewall and the backside of engine. Real good chance it was unplugged when the HG were done.
  6. Saw an 84 GL wagon there today. That soft yellow color. Bumpers, grill, doors looked very good. Also noticed the tan dash was without cracks. May post a photo later of the dash. Anyone locally interested go to row 4 or 5 and then walk back to the fence. It is the last car in one of those rows. Too far away for me to pull parts.
  7. I have one I just recently pulled from an AWD XT6. PM if inereseted. John
  8. Not familiar with the McIntosh system but do know the amp has to be powered for there to be sound. Could unplug it and look for 12 volts and there should be an inline fuse somewhere for the amp.
  9. Back in 68 a friend floated the valve train at 140 mph in his 3-week old Dodge Charger RT. Dealer pulled the heads and just installed new valves. The pistons had deep indentations but after the new valves were installed, that didn't seem to make any difference.
  10. If it worked fine until the cable was replaced then cable not adjusted or the fork cracked.
  11. Just recently stripped an XT6 and pulled the tank. Real pita because the rear differential has to be dropped. Also there are a lot of lines associated with the tank which didn't concern me since I was only after the tank. But maybe you have a FWD which will make the process easier. Not the end of the world but give yourself at least 1/2 day.
  12. Doubt if the shaft sheared. Any possibility the pulley is freewheeling on the shaft? If you remove the reservoir cap I would think you can see the power steering fluid circulating, if the pump is working. Has to be some sort of control block in the rack. Maybe it has failed.
  13. Don't know how the oil and gasoline is mixed on this engine but almost sounds like lack of cylinder lubrication is the problem.
  14. I've had axles that absolutely would not move in the hub until that beveled washer directly behind the axle nut was first removed. Once the washer was removed the axle most of the time just moved freely. Go figure.
  15. If you know or it looks like either the engine or transmission has been replaced then the internal transmission pump has most likely been damaged and the transmission is junk. Easy test is to pull one of the ATF cooler lines and crank the engine. No ATF then it is the pump. Linkage is no more then a cable. Don't toss the transmission Xmember because it is unique to the 4EAT. Real good chance this also has the LSD in the rear. Once owned a 90 turbo wagon with the 4EAT. Nice combination.
  16. Just reuse the XT6 strut. The XT6 knuckle, where the strut mounts to, is actually thicker by about an 1/8" than the Legacy k nuckle. If you enlarge the top mounting hole you can even use the Legacy camber bolt.
  17. E-brake may just need adjusted which can be done by turning a nut under the transmission hump. Also have some front rotors and calipers I saved from an XT if you want to go use. PM if interested. Also a bad MC can cause this problem. Heated fluid which expands can not return to the MC so it goes the other way and pushes against the caliper piston. More heat, more "push" and eventually the front brakes losk.
  18. Something not right here. No 85 XT came with the 4-speed auto.
  19. That one-loose nut suggestion made me think about how about loosening all the nuts and take the car for a ride? Now I've never done this but don't see why it would not work.
  20. My wagon with slightly more miles than yours still has its original axles.
  21. Fuel pressure regulator ruptured. Pull the vacuum line, looking for gasoline. Fuel injector stuck wide open. My money on the FPR.
