chef_tim replied to NathanialBaker's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Can you get some pics of it??? Also a little more detail, what year?? Is it a GL or DL??? seats, fun tops etc. I can tell you I won't even come close to $1800 for a non runner thats been rattle canned. Lets start with a couple of picture and go from there. Thanks, Tim -
I too lost a block once. The direction do say specifically to go back and retighten all the bolts after driving it a bit. Sucks to break stuff but really bad to break that much stuff. Tim

Rebuild or salvage my Brat?
chef_tim replied to NathanialBaker's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you decide to sell it as-is, let me know. My wife is from OK and we could go down under the guise of visiting family and bring back a newer Brat. Tim -
Converted to the Subaru! poll
chef_tim replied to Gravityman's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I not trying to convert anyone. These things are way to rare to be having competion around here to have to fight for parts, cheapies etc. I did get Vicky on to them, but she really didn't have much of an option . Later, Tim -
I'm on 28/8.5/14 TSL's 1. as mentioned before they are soft on corners 2. Loud isn't the word for it. Then again my interior is gutted, no sound deadening from carpet etc. 3. The flat spot on the tyres in the morning is way cool, like riding a 10 cent super market horse. 4. I've have mine on for about two years as a daily driver and their just getting to the point of needing replaced 5. $80 a tyre isn't bad, but it is relative to your financial position. 6. If you drive them low on air they will wear out 4x as fast as normal (don't ask) 7. I've not had any problems on ice snow mud or street, of course you need to drive responsibly and intellegently. Hope this helps you decide, but that's what it boils down to is your decision. Later, Tim

Lowered & Removable Jumpseats
chef_tim replied to Gravityman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm in the process of doing just that, only to use as a back seat in hatch. Becarefull of rust, they may look strong but water gets down the tubes and rusts them from the inside out. Tim -
Pretty much somes it up

Why do people hate Loyales?
chef_tim replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Tom, did you have to cut any to get those tyres on it??? Tim. Oh yeah, I've got two GL wagons, I'd take a Loyale if one came avilable for cheap and in the area. Later, Tim -
Uncorrectable Front End Vibration
chef_tim replied to Syrinx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ditto the U-joints, and they feel like a front end vibration too. Let us know what you find out Kurt. Later, Tim -
Would you post the Ebay link to it??? Thanks, Tim

Most of the Brats I saw in Isreal were 2wd:confused: . We might not have got them, but they were made. Tim

Got it back on on Thursday, dialed-in on Friday and I'm now just driving it to see how it is going to work. So far just a mild performance increase over what it was. holds 65 okay now, up and down hills. Fuel consumption seems to have decreased, but I'll wait to fill up for a real accounting. Other then that runs well, but it did before I took it aparts. I'll give an update again later. Tim

Yes, it will fit. The EA81 designator tells you that it is a 1.8l OHV motor, just what you have in your DL. Tim

Just keep walking toward the light Anna!!! With three, you've already crossed over;) . Welcome aboard. Tim

chef_tim replied to LuckyPistol's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Can I make the strong suggestion that you go back and edit out the stuff that your sorry for. I can see this turning into an all out flame war shortly. I'd also strongly suggest that you not vent your anger at this board or the people on it, it is a sure way to have people just stop helping you at all!!!! Thanks, Tim -

Okay, I just did a complete strip down and cleaning. One thing I think I did was set the float correctly. I tried this before but never on a bench with good light, no gass dripping all over etc etc. Tomarrow I'll put it back on if the weather hold and get back to you all. PS It was so easy to do it scares me

HELP !!! Lifter noise bringing me down
chef_tim replied to markman34's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
When I had the heads done on an EA82 it took close to two weeks for the tick to go away. I was just on the verge of taking it back and suddenly it was quiet. Give it some time. Oh, and yes, oil pressure is low on these beasts. Tim -
Okay, I found a couple doing a Google search. It is basically a threaded rod that you screw into the spark plug hole to stop the piston on it up stroke. Rotate the engine till it stops, mark the flywheel. Rotate back the opposite direction till it stops, mark the fly wheel. The point inbetween your two marks is TDC, then just set your timeing using a timeing light and the TDC mark. Just to be sure, Subarus use a 14mm spark plug, correct??

HELP !!! Lifter noise bringing me down
chef_tim replied to markman34's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It will take some time to pump up the valves, they have air in them from the disassembly. Just drive it for a week or two and see if it doesn't clear up. Tim
