Cool Subaru vid, start at 1:45 to see how to Mud
Uberoo replied to junk250's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
ah right one of the first vids that comes up when you type subaru offroad on youtube.Mudding isn't all that hard.Select a gear that the engine has enough power to keep the tires spinning and boot it.Keep the "R"s up until you make it out the other side or blow your motor... -
Did you invade my mind and take my idea,my vision for my 78 brat? That is totally what I want mine to look like.

Windshield Gasket - Gen 1 vs Gen 2 Brat

you could make it fit by shortening it to fit and using plenty of window weld urethane. -
Bad brake master cylinder?
Uberoo replied to barrett045's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I have never had any luck using the hose into brake fluid trick because the threads leak a small amount. So first try the trick with a hose if not find a friend a bleed them like you would brakes.then bleed the brakes starting with the brake farthest away from the MC. -
DK Hardware Back Glass Slider for Brat

try it and see then. -
I had a legacy that either burned or leaked oil and I knew it was time to add oil when the lifters started ticking.I never changed the oil on that car, I just changed the filter every once in a while...

So just curious, how fast were you going before you hit the tree? The hatch in my sig fell off my trailer and center punched a tree at 50 and its floor didn't separate, but it did a hell of alot more damage to the car.

DK Hardware Back Glass Slider for Brat
Uberoo replied to sancofw's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I'm not seeing anything that looks like they even sell automotive glass, much less a sliding glass window for a brat. -
So I am wondering: Do you really need the front half of the fenders? Just remove everything forward of the front wheels centerline...

Is it bad that I read that in Towelie's voice?

As far as cali visual test do you think the tester will be familar with what emmissions equipment where on a gen 1 brat in the first place. Its not like a 80's chevy that has a smog pump and a cat... -

Rather than adapters see if there is enough meat on the existing subaru hubs to mill them out to the new pattern.

That might be beyond the scope of this project,but...

Possible to convert all running lights to LED?
Uberoo replied to spicypeanut's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
On my 78 brat both are 3 wire/2 pin connectors. One is white and one is pink. The actual flashers look the same. -
Do you have two rear brake setups?

you helped it flex better by installing spherical end linds, but didn't actually cure the underlying bind.
-
The binding comes from the suspension itself because each link rotates about its center. The two laterial links piviot near the rear diff.Their rotation can be seen from the back of the car. The front link pivots toward the front wheels, its rotation can be seen from the side. So all three links will tend to deflect the bushing sideways in order to flex. The only flex you can get out of something like that is just the bushing itself flexing and possibly the control arms/mounts flexing slightly

You might need to add some weight in the back to help with traction.Put the battery and spare tire back there for starters. Its not so much about relative weight as it is weight balance. With nothing in the back you probally changed the weight balance from 60/40 to 75/25.With a weight balance like that the rear tires push the front end but as soon and the front end sinks in from the weight the rear tires just spin and you get stuck. My Tcased hatch felt the same way until I mounted the battery, spare tire, and my toolbox in the back of the car along with removing some weight from the front end with lightweight brackets.

1st Gen Brat Side passenger side-view mirror?
Uberoo replied to Cyfun's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
"Got your ears on son?" Those big truck mirrors look way out of place, like the car has ears or wings. Not to mention they stick out far from the body so its easy to damage them. -
Swapping a turbo ej is a diferent ball game than swapping in a non-turbo ej.While a EJ22 swap could be done for as little as $1000 or less, a ej20 or ej257 is about a $3000 project. Not something to do on a high school budget when its your only car.For a solid offroader or daily driver just a non turbo ej22 is about perfect. The ej22 has roughly twice as much power at any point in the RPM band as an EA81.Obstacles that required full throttle can be idled up with an ej22. With the ej22 fwd on the street is useless until 35-40 MPH, because you will get wheelspin on all but the lightest throttle inputs. I had an 87 wagon that I swapped an ej22 into and in FWD I could do a rolling burnout at 25 mph in 3rd gear just by flooring it.
