  1. yes, but I don't know all the details. there are many places where I don't think there should be an ORV park.
  2. yea, I think it's a bad ground, because it doesn't matter what bulb is in there, and it's both high and lo beam.....
  3. so, this last weekend was he second annual MNsubaru ice race event. we go way up north, set up a course, and drive on it all weekend. last year, someone was kind enough to time our laps for comparison, but due to some drama, that didn't happen this year. anyway....some sweet pics of my wagon sideways. and a couple cool pics with a buddy's impreza behind me: had an awesome time....but found out that the RX tranny is overrated for an EJ-swapped car. locked center diff yielded no advantage over the EJ viscous center. and with the torque of he EJ22, lo-range was pointless.... but we had an awesome time anyway! EDIT: just noticed the new motorsports section....this may be better in the Rally/Racing section...
  4. responsible, legal, and safe wheeling FTW!!! MN is on the verge of loosing all legal ORV land. so yea, you could say I'm pretty passionate about it.
  5. well, I'm not going to vote, because it's very specific to the area. BUT, I doubt you'll get much support here. I made a simple request to use caution when posting pics of WCSS, and I was insulted, and the posts deleted. many of the members here don't care what happens to the sport in the future :-\
  6. Current sources: http://wordpress.suberdave.com/wp-content/files/EA82/EA2EJ.pdf https://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/mroseusa/EA2EJ.pdf http://thepantieswithin.com/bwindle/document/Car/EA2EJ.pdf http://offroadingsubarus.com/downloads/EA2EJ.pdf I've read, and proofread, and edited. I think I've got it pretty much how I want it. So I'd really like you guys to read it over, and make any changes you guys think are necessary. it's pretty close to being ready to be converted to .pdf form.
  7. An RX tranny will need quite a bit of work to be worth swapping in there. the lo range is very meager. simply a 1.2:1 reduction. the only time you really notice the difference is in the already far too low 4th and 5th gears. the locking center is neat, but the EJ viscous diff works great for everything. I just spent 4 days with the MNSubaru at the annual Ice Race event. and quickly found out that the locked center really wasn't any different than the viscous center in the EJ cars, except you don't need to unlock them when you get out on the street. AND, you have some traction control on the street. if you try to accelerate hard out of a corner on the street (center diff needs to be unlocked) you'll get unlimited wheelspin on the inside front wheel, and no traction. and with the EJ22 (which you probably have either that or an EJ25), the extra torque means it's faster to drive in hi-range, and shift less frequently also, don't let the 3.7 axle ratio fool you, the gears are much shorter, and you'll be running much higher rpm's on the freeway. don't get me wrong, it's a cool tranny, and I intend to keep using it, but when I get it the way I want it, it'll have taller 1-5 gears, and lower lo range. aswell as a front LSD. I don't want to discourage you, but I want to be sure you know that this tranny is not all it cracked up to be. ever since I finished my wagon, I've had one complaint. the tranny. I've been very disappointed with it. The tranny was designed for the EA82t. and there's more than a few reasons they changed the design with the new motor. nobody really knows how strong they are, but they're pretty tough. but almost everyone who upgrades motors, upgrades trannies as well. but I suspect it has very similar strength to an early EJ 5-speed. BUT, to answer your question, I can only help a bit. This swap is pretty rare. but as you mentioned, you'll need an adapter plate, flywheel, clutch, rear diff, and tranny. the rear diff will bolt right into your car, so no worries there, it's an upgrade anyway. the driveshaft will need to be modified (length is different, though I'm not sure how much, or even which direction). and the linkage will need some work. you're car might also be a hydraulic clutch system, and the RX tranny uses a cable clutch, so you'll need to convert. some good info on RX tranny gearing, and a good solution: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=68752
  8. yep, receiver would be great for the back....but still have to figure something out for the front. or put an EA81 push bar on it, like Austins imp. didn't look too difficult. and it was sturdy! I dragged him off of some gnarly stuff last fall by it.
  9. or wait a couple weeks, and I'll have the wiring portion of the write-up finished...
  10. that could be.... the GL-10 only refers to a trim level. interior options and such. the tranny will be the same.
  11. virtually everyone builds a frame under the car. which I think is pretty much required to get enough strength for the suspension at the 6-8"+ of lift range. although bushbasher didn't. he reinforced the floor under the seats, and mounted it that way...it looked pretty cool. but I'm still worried about he front suspension. a frame really helps strengthen the weakest part of the car, the radius rod brackets.
  12. um, well the tranny has a pair of very large grey connectors. square ones IIRC. I've got some good pics of a legacy with the dash removed here. with some explanations of what all the wires do: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=68429
  13. rats....I just don't know man. that doesn't seem right
  14. yep, I used those generic adjustable coilover springs. stock impreza on the left, R1 racing coilovers, JDM STi ver 6? springs. I'm running those coilovers without the threaded perch on the bottom on the front. and it's adjusted way down in the back...
  15. you will only need 2 relays. the main/ignition relay (brown, 6-wires), and the fuel pump relay (green plug, 4 wires). anything else you can ditch. also, there's no need to keep any of the fuse boxes. you'll only need a couple fused wires, so there's no point keeping the whole box. and yes, shift lock refers to the trans nightmare? you haven't even started yet...
  16. hmmm...when I had those FWD impreza axles, I compared them to an EA82 axle, and they looked to be the same size... so, the only thing I can think of is that they might not be pulled all the way through the axles?
  17. nope, same car, different rims. I love the H-alloys, but they have VERY crappy tires on them. so I threw them on for the cars debut at the local subaru club meet/hangout. then swapped back over to my wagon wheels with nice tires for daily driving. also, when I swapped the alloys off, I dropped the back ~1/2" to even it out a bit (notice the rake in the pic with the alloys?). anyway, now I've popped stock loyale wheel covers on the wagon wheels
  18. you could say that my wagon is running a bit less than stock ride height: ~3" lower than stock 4WD ride height using universal 450/500 lb/in coilovers. running without the adjustable lower perch on the front.

yep, that's WITH cutting AND a lift. I meant 27s are about as much as you can got WITHOUT cutting and WITH a lift...trying to fit them without a lift, would involve quite a bit of cutting. I had 28s, and had to do some cutting/bashing in the rear, and a bunch in the front.
  20. I don't know what kind of regulations or whatnot you may have for tow points. but most local places require BOLT-on tow points. not weld-on. that way they can look at the bolts, and see that they're grade 5 1/2" or bigger...and be done. it's alot harder to check a weld long story short, it'll be VERY difficult without making a steel bumper and integrating the two point into that.

you'll have to cut a bunch out of the both front and rear. that's about as big as you can go without cutting WITH a lift. cutting the back isn't any harder than cutting the front....
  22. I guess I'll be making a cold, snowy trip to the junkyard over break!
  23. looks like zaps old green brat... and a 6" lift might not be enough for a tcase... pretty sweet, though!
  24. a 4-cyl XT is an EA82. some of them use a serpentine belt system instead of v-belt. and I believe XTs were the only car to get the N/A MPFI EA82.
