  1. Is it me....or is your diff crooked? looks kinda spazzy to me!
  2. yep, ASV's = Air Suction Valves, I'm not exactly sure as to their purpose, but they allow fresh air back into the exhaust, either to cool it down, or allow the cat to do a more efficient job, well, I disable mine and it turned my one HUGE shotgun shot backfire, into popping/crackling, at the worst. Also, i know I have a vacuum leak in the emissions system somewhere, the cap/rotor/plugs/wires all need replacing (but I just don't want to put any money into a motor that's going to gain donor status in less than a month), but the timing is DEAD on, and I've tried advancing/retarding it, and found that advancing it a couple degrees helped some also. I hope this helps, I realize we're talking about slightly different engines here, so some of this info will need to be modified for your use, but it's a start.
  3. My GL does this...disabling the ASV's helps (I think EA81's had them), I've come to the conclusion that it has something to do with my incredible lack of exhaust backpressure, which I think is also the reason it's got no power, I'll know more when I get my new exhaust on it. So for the meantime, I just don't make any sudden throttle changes, always very smooth, let the RPM's come down.
  4. pencil me in too! I'd really like to come, but have no idea what my schedule will be this summer (which may make it easier to do something like this...and it may not), I like the Iowa idea, although Sarah and I are thinking of roadtripping down to Chicago sometime this summer, so that direction would be fine too!

I'm looking at doing dual side-dumps with a crossover, but I'm worried about smashing them... but, back on topic here, my friend who's doing the welding job on it, is using the stock flanges and whatnot, off of the old system, and using a gutted, stock cat as the "Y" he seems to think it's solid
  6. Great idea...but what do you do with the axle after it's disconnected from the diff?
  7. O...ok, then...nevermind, thanks anyway...
  8. if it's a solid runner, I can have it out of you're driveway by the weekend. but if it needs a trailer/dolly then...no, it needs to be a reliable daily driver for 6 months or so, but this summer, we can strip it at my parents, and I have some connections to get rid of it then (I'll probably be scrapping what's left of the GL then too, and I know a guy with a 2 car flatbed), flag me down on MSN if you see me, and we can talk more about it
  9. Numbchux replied to Roundeye's topic in Off Road
    Agreed!!!
  10. Give it to me and Sarah, then when we find her a nice MT D/R one (and some money, she just bought a viola) we'll strip it at my parents place, lots of space there!
  11. not in turbos...but they did come in some XT6's...
  12. lockable center?
  13. nope, not an EJ...it's an EA82, and probably SPFI, not plug-and-play. Mudrat makes an adapter plate to drop it in, which would probably be cheaper than getting another motor, but you'll still have to do all the wiring.
  14. I think Snowman has some on roxanne....check his album in the photo gallery
  15. ok, well, looks like I'll be doing the lift/4WD swap over spring break, and (like I said) would like to go 4", so whoever's doing them should pm or email (numbchux (at) juno.com) me very soon! Thanks!
  16. oooo, mee tooooo!!! better use my gmail account numbchux (at) gmail.com looks awesome even centered on my huge monitor!
  17. I hope so, I'm planning on going up 4" this summer, and was planning on getting it from PK
  18. I miss that excuse!!!
  19. huh, what do ya know? I have them too, I'm at school now, and I even went into my gallery to look, they're on the hood of my loyale, and not on the GL! interesting!
  20. ROFLMAO!!! agreed, notice all of mine are impreza's except the one I'll probably end up doing most/all of the work on in the near future at least.
  21. My GF is driving a '01 escort that makes some of the most horrific sounds I've ever heard come out of an engine bay! We're looking for a subie. I'm up to 3 friends at school, though only one actually has one yet, a '95 AT AWD impreza L, he sold (or maybe just stopped driving, he may still have it) a pathfinder for it. Another guy is selling his '99.5 VW GTi VR6 and looking for a 2.5RS, and another is selling his '97 VW Jetta GLX VR6 and looking for a WRX! I've converted VDub guys!
  22. well, I guess you're just going to have to join! I don't think I'll make it down this time,
  23. nope, 8th st E in Duluth, PM me if you need it again
