  1. I used a Sachs XT6 clutch kit with a machined XT6 flywheel when I did my swap. You should be able to use an XT6 pressure plate with an EA82 flywheel too. I would make sure to have the stepping machined to match the XT6 pressure plate when you get the flywheel turned.
  2. Very nice work! The decals that I bought from you look perfect even years later
  3. I didn't put up anything like that in the shop that I ran for many years. I never knew who would stop in and I didn't want anyone to get the wrong impression and take offense. Most of my customers were also friends with professional lives and they would NOT have understood. I chose automotive or business related decor if any, and kept that to a minimum. I walked in to a friends shop many years ago when I was starting out pretty close to closing time. Everyone was already drinking beer and loudly joking around right in the shop. It didn't 'feel right' to me and I never stopped by there again. I drove by his shop recently to see if things had improved over the years. It's a dumpy looking small engine repair shop with about 25 lawn mowers in the parking lot now.. I decided not to drop off a resume there
  4. Happy 4th of July to everyone at USMB! Have a great weekend!
  5. I'll bite, I could use at least one if they work out. I'll watch your site for the update.
  6. You have oversize bearings. The ".25MM" indicates the size. You need bearings that say "std" if you are not machining the crankshaft, same goes for the rod bearings.
  7. I have no doubt that you are right ^^^ thank you for the kind words . I am getting both good at and tired of moving my tools I would advise working out of the "small portable box" for the first week or so next time. Lesson learned the hard way
  8. The job at the dealership didn't work out. My last day was today June 16th 2015. I'll post if there are any updates. I am currently unemployed again. Jeff
  9. I would use some PB Blaster or something in the cylinders to help take care of that surface rust. The rings are probably stuck to the cylinder walls.
  10. The 'Monday morning' test is a good barometer of my progress. I used to be sick to my stomach heading in to my old job after a couple days off. I find myself already looking forward to what ever is next for me at the new place. Everyone there is SO nice too. That helps a lot. I'll update here once in a while. Most of the techs there seem to think that I will settle in and be much happier there. We are allowed to shut the doors and we have killer heat right over our tool boxes. I've never had that luxury before I received my benefit package from HR too I have never worked for a company with an 'HR' dept, lol Here is my new home away from home. This was taken just after setting up my box. I have had a chance to clean up since then.
  11. @Coxy, thank you for the kind words I had no idea how hard the transition from an independent shop to a dealer would be. I am starting to feel like I might be 'over the new guy hump'. It seems like I am beginning to earn some respect from the other techs too. It is hard to "prove myself" with everyone watching so closely. Talk about feeling SMALL again! Most of what I did for the first 3 days was diagnose various problems on the 2 mile test run, one of my strong points. I was cranking out lots of waiter rotates, brake inspections, and 30,000 mile services too. I must have flagged 50+ flat rate hours in the first 4 days. My writer and team leader are nice, patient, and fair. Experience with a broad range of vehicles seems to be helpful too. I am getting some slightly more complicated repairs during my second week. I end up with 5 days off once each month due to the schedule rotation. I work most Saturdays and the shifts are 10 or 11 hour days! That will take some getting used too. My uniforms are on order. Good sign
  12. This thread is no longer needed as I do not work there. Mods can lock or delete it. Thanks, Jeff
  13. The XT6 has an electric power steering pump. There was a recall involving a single blue or yellow wire run under the hood and attached with zip ties, you might verify that is it done. Secondly the electric motor that drives the fluid pump might just need new brushes. Some more troubleshooting is required. These systems are supposed to use a special "Cybrid" fluid from the Subaru Dealer, although I don't know how critical this actually is.
  14. I am a newly hired Tech at a car dealer. The guys in the shop are having trouble teaching me how to use the cryptic "command line" version of the ERA Technician Dispatching Software in the service department. Can anyone please point me to an online user guide or cheat sheet for the command line code, such as MO = Mileage Out, E-Enter, F-Enter to finish, W6 to work on line number 6, etc. I can repair cars no problem. but this is driving me nuts without any help. Thanks for any assitance that you can offer, I'll owe you a beer, pizza, you name it I have a feeling that most new car dealers use the same type of DMS (Dealership Management Software) program, and it's about to upgrade to ERA-Ignite just after I learn this Jeff
  15. When you unscrew the oil filter is the check ball still visable on the filter mounting area? I have seen the EA82s' blow the check valve out of the pump and in to the filter more than once. The check ball is just "staked in" to the pump housing. It then gets discarded at the next oil change when the filter gets replaced. It is easily overlooked. I just rebuit an EA82 and it had the same symptoms. A $6.00 used oil pump solved the problem for me.
  16. A new chapter begins. I was hired as a technician today by a new car dealer in Everett, Wa. I am both excited and nervous at the same time They offer full benefits and factory training too! I move in next Tuesday and start work on Wednesday. Thanks to everyone here for all the support, you guys are great
  17. That's frustrating for sure. It sounds like you might have received the FWD clutch disc instead of the 4WD one. Good luck!
  18. I get good results with lots of hand work. I find that WD-40 melts the grease and dirt off pretty well. It also doesn't seem to be corrosive like some of the more harsh cleaners. I have a collection of old brushes that fit in to all the nooks and crannies, such as old tooth brushes, bottle brushes, finger nail brushes, various plastic scrapers, small wire brushes, etc. It takes a few hours but the results are always worth it I would sure like to hear of a short cut that doesn't involve some sort of media blasting Good Luck!
  19. Sometimes the two long head bolts that also hold down the rocker shafts strip out in the block by using an impact gun to remove them. I usually pull those out by hand for that reason. The helicoil method has worked for me in the past.
  20. I have a 5MT with a 4.111 final from a 2001 Legacy GT. I also have the matching (V)LSD rear differential from the same car. I am in the Edmonds - Lynnwood Wa area. Let me know if interested.
  21. What's to think? Grab it and flip it if nothing else That's a good paycheck for a day or two's worth of work! Congrats!
