  1. Today works for me! ...as I'm stuck in a Hotel over near the Centenial Airport:cool: anyone....really, anyone... I'll just be here waiting....patiently.... Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max--now sporting a new air suction valve! 01 Forester--now with a newly relocated knock sensor.
  2. I was getting an 0325 Knock sensor malfunction bank one. I relocated my knock sensor and the light went back off. I'm waiting to see if it will come back...
  3. I spotted an 87 GL Wagon for sale in the neighborhood. It had a duct tape front light on one side and some rust along the rocker panels. The sign said $400 runs great (auto) trans needs work. It has 131,000 on it. The only possible use I would have for this is a project car for my boys to build and eventually drive. I'd be thinking D/R tranny and Pugs. Any thoughts? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--Summer 84 GL Mad Max--mobile spare parts for Summer 01 Forester--Knock sensor moved.
  4. You know...an auto may be just the thing for compensating for the larger tires. If you don't abuse the auto too much it can function as a variable low range? How big of tires are you thinking?
  5. I had a tree come down on my roof rack side bar. No doubt in my mind it saved the car from more damage! The bar held up and the roof received less damage. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12290&cat=500&ppuser=584 The bars are thick & solid and close to the roof. They have got to help.
  6. Time for a new thread on Keyless entrys..... I have a new Subaru 01-02 entry system (plug and play) due to arrive in the mail any day now. I'm looking to sell it...CHEAP! I purchased it just for the remotes. Oh ya, I had the same "knock sensor bank 1 malfunction" code last week. Cleared it and it has not reared it's ugly head again...so far...
  7. The first few digits of your vin should be something like "4S3BK4351X6........ 4 is Country of Origin--US S is Manufacturer--Subaru/Isuzu USA 3 is a Passenger car B is Legacy K is the Wagon (D is the Sedan) 4 is the 2.2 motor 5 is your manual seat belts and driver and passenger side air bags _ is your check digit 6 is your assembly plant (Lafayette IN.) and transmission type. (6 is 5sp MT, 7 is Auto) _ the last six are your sequience numbers The sixth digit of your vin should be a "4" if you have the 2.2 motor. Hope this helps, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  8. Just take the good window handle off the other side and keep it tied to a string from the rear view mirror. Who ever needs to roll a window can just push it on and roll the window down. Then when someone else needs it you can always find it. It will never get lost of stolen as long as you use a good quality string.
  9. I was cheering for a Poor Little Subie in a Demoliton Derby. He did really well for quite a while, but one hit to the front and it was over! None of the little cars seemed to be able to take much of a hit and keep going. Poor little cars...
  10. Real Forester STi's exist. They are just a little hard to find. http://foto.auto.vl.ru/1889/14166/ I'm so jealous! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester non-STi:mad:
  11. Back on topic. I purchased my 1982 Subie back in 1983. It was not new but about 6months old and my guess is it was a repo. I'll never know, or care. At the time I was shopping for a Subaru. I didn't care which model as they all would have worked for what I needed. I purchased it for $6,500 six months old with 6k on it. I have never looked back! Many a friend asked me when I was going to get a new car during those 20+ years. My thoughts were always the same. This is the car I want to be driving! The only reason I'm not still driving it daily is because rust finally took it's toll on my old friend. Not willing to give up, I put a new body on my car. Summer, my SubaruHummer was born (again) in 2003/2004. On the day I retired my old friend from daily (on road) service, I took it out, just my car and me for a last drive. On that day we set a new land speed record! Seventy six miles a hour! I had never taken the car over 74 mph in all those years. Not that it couldn't do it, it's just that the gearing is so low that I just felt it was not good for the car. At the end of our drive I officially retired my Subie from service and began the transformation to it's new life. True I don't drive my old friend everyday now but I still admire it/laugh at what I have done and dream of the places we will still go! I love my Subie, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  12. If he is worried about clearance to get where he wants to go, he would probably need the gearing to backup the clearance he is worried about. I'll take gearing over clearance any day of the week. Clearance can be measured any number of ways at many places on the vehicle. A Pathfinder will have more clearance under the center of the vehicle. Clearance under the center of the vehicle is where it counts the most off-road. Clearance between the tires (under the diff) can be dealt with in any number of ways. In order to understand which vehicle is best you really need to know what he intends to do and where he intends to go. For true off-roading your really can't compare a Subaru to a Pathfinder. For the other 99% of the time when the vehicle is on the road, the Subaru will be the superior vehicle. It's all in the intended use.
  13. I fired up the 2001 Forester this morning and found the check engine light shining brightly. I stopped by Checker Auto and had them read the code. It was 0325 Knock Sensor Malfunction Bank 1. Anyone familiar with this? I did a search and didn't find much. Is this the dreaded gas cap loose code:banghead:? I screwed the cap on tighter till it clicked at Checker and then went about my business. The next time I fired up the Mighty Forester the CEL was gone?. I'm confused, can anyone enlighten me? Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester
  14. I thought the same thing, but the car is an 84 which would make the build date right on. From the stats we have gathered so far, it has to have had a motor swap at some point. I'll see it this weekend and I can check the vin and see if the 10th digit is valid for an 84. I don't know the history of the car. I bought it for $40 and didn't ask questions.
  15. All my cable seem to break while waiting in traffic to make a Left Hand Turn! If it poped and you still have a pedal at all somethings up? All my cables gave up instantly and completely, no kinda breaking. The metal collar that mounts to the pedal box may have failed? You should be doing the install in less than 10 minutes!
  16. I run my Dirt Devils at 25 + psi! That's way over the ATV psi recomendations but that's going to keep them on. Since I welded the diff and put the ATV's on, I have never spun a tire! Nothing will compare with traction you'll get.
  17. I think if you were to run it over a scale, you'd find it weighs more than you were hoping.:-\ Truck Stops, recycling centers, or firewood/coal places may be able to weigh it for free! If I remember right my Forester weighed in at 3200+ at the recycling center.
  18. I'd bet your car is not a car? ...and therefore does not fall under that restriction! I'd bet it's an SUV or a Truck. My Forester is not a car according to DOT.:-p
  19. This brings up the age old question... "When a Tree falls on a Forester...does it make a Noise?" I feel your pain. Been there done that! I sometimes wonder if Foresters attract trees. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12290&cat=500&ppuser=584 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12291&cat=500&ppuser=584
  20. The Crawler guys put water in their tires. Water seems as though it would work the same as bb's? Water goes in / out of tires easier?
  21. Do you just want the tires off or do you want them remounted? Geting a tire off a rim is easy---if you no longer want the tire! Gimme a sawzall:brow:
  22. That little Subie just plain goes!
  23. You will be overloading the tires but... As long as you get a 6 ply, they should be able to handle the load. But weight is not your only concern. You also need to be careful with your width. A 12" wide tire should be on a 9" wide rim. Running a 12" wide tire on a 6" or 5.5" pug is a bit narrow. Besides the width issue, you may have clearance issues due to the off-set. I also see wheel well trimming in your future. I wouldn't even thing about running them on the street. Keep them just for off-road. Your also going to have to up the air pressure! I run a 12" on an 8.5" rim to keep the rim. I went with an 8.5 to keep the rims "in" a bit away from rocks. Good luck! Let us know how this works.
