Another fuel pump question
I think the first thing you need to do is eliminate the easy things. Change both fuel filters and see if that was the problem. It could be something restricting fuel flow in your filters. My guess would be that the FPCU is good and it's a filter or a pump issue? When my pump went out it was an intermittant short and would do wierd things. It never did leave me high and dry as it would alway refire after a rest. Give it a basic tune up. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

my wagon is back! MAJOR moldy pics inside
I think the air freshner should just about do it! I'd be careful about the bleach too... Bleach will eat the fabric. You got to wash that bleach out or it will just keep eating... What about upholstry/fabric cleaner and a spray on disinfectant? Lysol Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--once lost a 1/2 gal of milk in the back seat...... 01 Forester--no spills so far...

So how fast are they...
I grew up with a 82 Hatch, When I think of old Subies I think of Slow cars. I never had a Turbo, GL-10, RX, I don't know much about their speed capabilities or performance capabilities. What are the factory performance specs for the old Turbos? How fast are they? Just curious, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--never been to 75mph yet 01 Forester--rarely goes under 75mph.

Most embarassing place you've been stuck in your Ru?
Let's define "STUCK"! Stuck is when you can't move--If you can still move (even a little) then your not stuck! Years ago...up in the Uintas (9500ft) with the Hatch, in June, I removed my passenger seat and threw in my Honda Trail 70 and my cross country skis. Armed for what ever awaited me I boldly began trail blazing. I was working around the remaining snow drifts and opening up trails that had not seen vehicles since October. Later, needing to hook up with others, I turned around and headed back to civilization--or at least the campground. As I began retracing my original path, I began to get bolder, as I had already been through this area earlier.... I began "Bank Busting" rather than going around the snow difts.... I saw a particularly nice one with dry road on both sides.... I hit the gas and everything looked good....until I backed off the gas because I hesitated just a bit...to this day I don't know why? There I was stuck on a snow drift, 40ft long and 2ft high with nothing on board to help me get unstuck. The wheels were spinning freely as the whole car was high centered on the snow... I ended up using my X-C ski pole to remove the snow under the car and free up the under carrage. I used my feet and floor mats to scoop a trail out... Not a lot of fun... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--usually laughs at the other 4X4's in the snow.... 01 Forester--Been high-centered but not stuck!

buy 02 or 05 Forester
Sweet82 replied to ldelrosso's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'd look at it from a price function, not a monthly payment function. A monthly payment focus is a way for the Dealer to get your attention off the actual sales price--which should be the focus of your attention! NADA says the 02 S is $14,725 + an $850 add for LOW mileage = $15,575 (low book value used - but that's where you should be looking anyway) I don't know what your 05 X price is but you'd end up paying $3,360 more for the 05 (12 X 280). NADA takes $-1,800 off the value from an 04 vehicle for HIGH miles, an 05 would be even more of a hit on value for the high mileage. My thoughts are miles are life! The more miles you have, the less life left on the vehicle. That would steer me to the vehicle with the lower miles for the year. Looks like 15k is acceptable per year. So if your looking at the 02 in good shape (no repaint/repair/clean title) and can get it for $15,575, I'd go that way. New cars depreciate faster, the 04 Forester in one year depreciates $416/month The 02 Forester in one year depreciated $135/month. If you had to sell the newer Forester you could easily be upside down. (owe more than you can sell it for). All my calculations are based off LOW BOOK, in the Pacific NW October edition of NADA I paid $11,900 for my 01 Forester L a year and a half ago with 38k on it--CLEAN. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--owned for 22 years. 01 Forester--newbie.

Newbie saying hello from NC
Not sure if your 86 is the same as an 82, but on the 82 (EA81 motor) there is a plate that the oil pump sits on and it's easy to crack when removing the oil pump. Take a close look and be careful! Welcome to the board and good luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Auto Body tips?
Last Christmas a Tree fell in the Forest.... or was it.... a Tree fell on the Forester? I covered up the dent / chiped paint with a spoiler but I feel it's now time to fix it for real. I was wondering what steps you recommend for treating the rust, prepairing the surface and painting the spot. I'm going to leave the dent in place and just seal the metal. I have done some auto body in the past but would like feed back on doing it properly before I start on my new car. Thanks, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester--dented

Rust question
My EA81 had a little rust under the windscreen rubber but it was not significant and did not go all the way down. The rust on my undercarrage was much worse! Good Luck Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I had the headlights and frames I tried to give away and couldn't do it.... :-p Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--what would anyone want those parts for anyway???? 01 Forester--all the parts and then some...

Whats better??
I had the same question when I was building "Summer". The feedback I got was overwhelmingly in support of Lincoln. If you need it unlocked then removing an axle only takes a few minutes and your back to an unlocked rear. I welded mine and have not had any problems but i did end up reinforcing my diff hanger. This is what I did to my diff... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23259 However, l always have my eye out for a LSD as a spare... Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--Locked 01 Forester--LSD

The bolts on my exhaust are so corroded they look like little nubs I don't dare touch them because I know they will break I have always wondered what other people have experienced when they attempted to remove them? Thanks, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Anyone know where this goes?
Summer has one! So they must have come on 82 4WD's. Neither me or the dealer ever removed mine. However the dealer always removed the distributor guard everytime it went in for service. Finally the dealer wrote "winter use only" on the guard---as he left it in the spare.... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--both carb and disty guards in place! 01 Forester
