Yes you are supposed too, its not an opinion it is a fact. Your supposed to run 50/50 in this case it got so diluted it was of no use.

correct me if im wrong....
When an engine freezes, if the Freeze out plugs don't pop (and sometimes even when they do) you can crack a head or block.

You froze the engine and block. I'm not sure why the engine timing is knocked out, but you could have done all sorts of injury with a frozen block, including cracking it if a freeze plug didnt pop. SUbarus don't smoke when they blow a HG most the time, but they will blow fluid out of the radiator.

Hi, need Dashboard Schematic [2008 Subaru Outback]
nipper replied to mtg's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCould mean that your older roos had more wear on the bearings or the pump so they were more sensitive to lower oil levels.

94 Legacy, AWD failure, tranny codes
nipper replied to erecker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBefore you plug in another TCU, make sure all the wiring is good. Having something shorted out in the TCU makes me wonder about the rest of the harness. If the car doesnt read a VSS (automatic) you wont have AWD. You can have just one VSS working and still have a spedo and normal shifting, but should have a trouble light on the dash illuminated.

Coolant change issues, and sludge.
nipper replied to shortlid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDont remove those plugs. If you get them out, chances are (murphies law) they will leak. A garden hose flush works well, espcially with your low mileage. Use a good premix to refill the system after allowing as much tap water to drain out as possible. Refill the system with the car running.

5W-30 dino juice to thick for cold snap
nipper replied to shortlid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy biggest problem is the brake booster doesn't work when it's 0* and below until the temp warms up under the hood after 5-10mins. - Replace the brake booster hose. It has a check valve that freezes due to condensation. What I used to do is before I moved the car I would pump the brakes a few times to break the valve free then your good to go. If you do it every time the car sits for 4-5 hours or more you wont have an issue.

ABS not kicking in
nipper replied to provin1327's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOn the ABS pump itself there is a cover where some relays sit. I wonder if one of them have been removed.

Hi, need Dashboard Schematic [2008 Subaru Outback]
nipper replied to mtg's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAnd i have owbed 15 (pity me one Italian) and they all had OIL PRESSURE switches, not oil level switches. It really depends upon the design of the oil pan and pickup as to whether the oil pressure is affected by low oil level alone. Granted if you let the oil level get low enough it will turn on the oil pressure light, but that is not what it is there for nor meant for.

Options for Rust Protection?
Exhaust is really tough to protect as they rot from the inside out. In the Justy the rear muffler (only muffler) is sacrificed to the rust gods to save the rest of the car. Best way to do it if you drive in winter is make sure the trips are not short to allow everything to warm up and reduce condensation. The cat is fine as that gets hot quickly. Maybe the SUbaru automatic anti corrosion system?

You can get a vacume gauge and see if you have a clogged up cat or a collapsing exhaust system.

2.5L vs. 2.2L in buying a new (97) legacy outback.
nipper replied to Nick12684's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGuys he is saying it has a fully rebuilt motor, so HG is a non issue. I had a legacy 98 which was killed by reare end collision and a 97 Outback. The biggest difference is power. If your doing a lot of hilly drives or with passengers, the 2.5 ismy preferred recomendation. If not so hilly a 2.2 is fine. The 2.2 gets better gas mileage then the 2.5. Tming belts on the 2.2 are much easier then the 2.5. A 2,2 is bullit proof new, but now at almost 15 years old, you can run into issues. Find out who did the rebuild and are they repuitable. If it was done by the owner where did he source his parts, especially HG's.

Replacement Knock Sensor: El Cheapo or Bosch?
nipper replied to Armchair Bronco's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXKnock sensors can be any brand, as they don't seem to matter much. no one has really complained about an el cheapo vs. OE.

Have a question about the Crosstrek? Ask an owner!
Find a good alignment shop and look at the specs. There is usually some tolerance (technically thats the ISH number ie 20ish) and depending upon where they align to the tolerance in the spec can make a huge difference,
