  1. When it slows is the bulb very dim? Most of the time if you pry the contact in the socket up a bit and install a bulb with good contact points that will fix it. Grounds are always worth cleaning, but I bet it the contacts in the socket.
  2. Take a good look at the knock sensor and or pull it and read the resistance. If they fail, the ignition timing is backed off and the mileage goes down as well as the power.
  3. Subaru or aftermarket security system? Are you marker lights blinking when you turn on the Key? If so, find the reset button under the dash and press it with the key on. Most systems can be removed, one or two wires will have to be reconnected.
  4. Look at the oil pressure sensor up top. That may be the source of you leak, running down the pump face.
  5. you need the long 2 piece cover for your 01. There is the driver side small cover, but the middle and passenger side is all one piece.
  6. Start with the basics. Check the radiator level when cold at the radiator Is the over flow tank full and does the engine suck coolant back into the engine when it cools down When is the last time the timing belt, pulleys and water pump was changed Where does the temp gauge sit when hot and is it always at the same spot You will most likely find the answer.
  7. You will need the wiring diagram for your car. Find the ground wire and make sure it's going to ground. If they just cut the harness and were checking for voltage, guess what's sitting on the open ground looking for a ground, yep battery voltage.
  8. Pull your spare tire out and look for damage, also pull up the carpet panels in the rear. The bumper bolts in with 2 19mm bolts per side and then some small stuff for the plastic. There may be a little sheet metal damage, but nothing you couldn't adjust a used bumper when installing.
  9. I have 332K on my 98 OBS. I'd drive it anywhere. Cars are only as safe as the operator - Seat belts on - Defensive driving Take a walk through a junk yard, you will see Subaru's that are totally smashed in the front and the doors still open and close fine.
  10. Sounds like the IAC hose, large 1" one is off.
  11. Knock Sensor will cause your symptoms, power loss and high fuel consumption as it retards the idle. Make sure you clock the new on correctly. Larry
  12. You said you adjusted the clutch, so I assume you have a cable operated clutch, do you also have the hill holder? If so your brakes may be dragging.
  13. Does it have an aftermarket radio? If so, they took away the ground. That would be my bet.
  14. Most likely the pump which can be rebuilt or replaced. Speedo, is most likely the speed sensor on the trans. Easy to change. Could be the dash, but that's pretty easy as well. No cable, it electronic. Larry
  15. The rear tail shaft seal is easy to replace. All seals are different. Pan uses RTV not a gasket. Mileage? If you drove the trans with no fluid, you damaged it and a used trans is most likely your best bet.
  16. Shawn at http://retroroo.com/ Rick at http://ccrengines.com/ Both in CO.
  17. Get the code # and let us know what they are! Find a good Subaru shop or USMB member in your area! Yes changing parts is not a way to fix a symptom.
  18. Yep, 99 I think. Only one wire going to the temp sensor was chewed through, so I repaired it. Lot's of work to get the harness off. - Power Steering Pump - AC Compressor - Intake It's almost done. Thanks
  19. I have good used Subaru Pans, Rust Free CO if you want one. Round or flat on the bottom. Larry
  20. I got a 98 Impreza Sedan with a 2.2. The darn rabbits had fun eating plug wires and into the harness. I replace the plug wires and coil (4 pin) but there is still damage to the main part of the harness. As soon as I start it the cooling fan starts and it throwing P0117. I can clear the code, the fan turns off as the CEL goes out, but comes on in a second or two. I have several other intakes but none of them are an exact match. The 98 Impreza: - 4 pin coil plug - Power Steering Pump plug - No EGR The other harness I have: - 3 pin coil plug, I have the correct 3 pin coil to work with the wires - No Power Steering Pump plug - Has an EGR So is I just swap the harness and use the 3 pin coil, and leave the Power Steering and EGR unplugged will it work without setting CEL? Thanks, Larry
  21. Sounds like your fans are not working. Quick check, start it and turn on the AC. Do the Fans both start working? if so it's not your fans and you have a way to keep it cool when you are in stop and go traffic, just turn on the AC. If that's the case, it's most likely your temp switch on the manifold behind the intake. Passenger side, down on top of the block. The larger of the two with the plastic connector. If the fans are not working at all, check the fuses. You can also hook up the diagnostic plugs under the dash to have the ECU cycle the fans on and off.
