Oklahoma People love older Subes
calebz replied to 78TurboBrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Actually, I don't think there's anybody here from OK.. Theres one or two in arkansas, a few in tx.. thats about it for the area.. and hog.. don't be worried about getting lumped in with us.. most of us hear in texas aren't FROM texas.. we're here for jobs, school and stuff.. so its not like like we're Texans (yuck).. besides.. my mom's family is from arkansas.. hell we might be related!.. I hear most of the people in arkansas are!(Just kidding.. had to throw that one in there:D ) -
True, it did, but I had the whole thing apart, wth the HH setup and the non HH setup sitting next to each other on the garage floor.. for ease of use, I opted for no HH

CV boot replacement--can I do it myself
calebz replied to jim martin's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yup, quick, cheap easy fix.. good for about 10k miles. if the joint is clicking/clunking though, time to replace the axle. only special tools required are a 36mm socket , 3/16(i think) punch and a BFH.. axle puller is helpful to get it back in, but not necessary -
Coolant leaking between Intake Manifold and Engine
calebz replied to alcyone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
as was said above, there are a bunch of small, fuel line sized coolant hoses that run through the manifold. Thats the first problem I ever encountered in one of my turbo soobs.. took forever to trace. but a fairly simply fix once I found it.(it was the one on the passenger side that runs from the t-stat housing to the throttle body.. I replaced them with high pressure fuel line, as true replacements are dealer only parts... been 2 years and 30,000 miles with no problems(at least with the cooling system:rolleyes: ) -

need some help, got dead sube
calebz replied to subawoohoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would start with the fuel pump relay.. Plug your geen diagnostic connectors in(probably under the dash on drivers side.. not sure though.. never had an 85-86 soob) then turn the key to the "on " position.. you should hear the fuel pump cycle off and on in 1.5 second bursts.. should also hear the fuel pump relay click every 1.5 seconds. Check your computer for error codes while your at it -
No hill holder here.I have the Master cylinder and lines from an auto with no hill holder.. just remember to put a return spring on the clutch

calebz replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Loosen the alternator, pull and tighten the AC pulley is more fun.. don't know which AC setup you have though -

Five bucks says its a dead disty.. the jumpy tach gives it away.. In my 87, When my disty went, it wouldn't restart when warm.. thats 2 strikes..Its Out!

Sounds like you might be experiencing a little torque bind. Most common problem is different sized tires. either altogether different sizes, or same size, but different brand. uneven tread wear can cause this as well.. on an AWD system its very important that you have 4 matching tires that are rotated regularly to prevent uneven tread wear

It won't leave you stranded..may cause pinging, or crappy idle though. the solenoids just go bad after a while and should be replaced.. they get stuck closed or open. its a electrical failure, not a mechanichal one. Regarding the gas cap/tank thing, that only causes codes on newer OBDII systems, which your car doesn't have.

Can't remember at the moment where all the extra grounds are.. I know I did one on the alternator bracket and one extra on the body.. don't remember where I put the others.. will look tomorrow
-
ALTERNATOR!!!!!! at least, thats where I would start From there I would also check all the grounds you can see.. my digidash does weird stuff if I don't have 3-4 extra grounds running around under the hood.. go figure

They don't exist. Your options are as follows: 13 soob rims 13 inch einkies(soob) 14 inch pug rims(steel or alloy) 14 inch jackmans(good luck) 14 inch einkies(peugeot) 15 inch pug rims(steel or alloy) 6 lug conversion 5 lug XT6 conversion 4x100mm conversion Plus the occasional oddball aftermarket 14 ich rims made for soobs through out the 80's .. few and far between Thats it.. there are no 16, 17, 18, 19 inch rims for 4x140 unless you have them custom made.
