My car won't start.
Yup. Same thing. I've used them before without issue. They do the same thing and have the same posts.

Coil is super quick to swap out. Maybe try the one from your other car just to check? If that's it, I'll send you one for free.

Converting dual headlights to quad headlights.
Haven't received it yet, I'll have to check the tracking number and see where it is. Says it'll be here Wednesday.

Converting dual headlights to quad headlights.
I know they're different on the gen 2's, but I was still able to convert from dual to single on mine. I'd think it could be done on the gen 1 as well. Not sure though.

Push-button 4wd to High/Low 4wd Swap
That's not correct. Subarus are fwd until 4wd is engaged, the it kicks the rear wheels in. Doesn't matter if it's push button or dual range.

Running issues and a couple questions.
So I followed what was done in this link: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/45537-does-anyone-know-about-the-alternator-swap/ But of course that means it's wired for the fuel pump to be on with the key. So I'd like to do something now to make it have the safety feature again. But the bright side is, it runs properly and shuts off with the key!

Anyone else have any comfirmation as to what the black wire goes to? Does it go to ground on the alt? Just trying to make sure. Also trying to find out for sure what hooks where on the coil.

Yeah we want it to be safe. Anyone know exactly how the coil and stuff is supposed to be wired. The coil has a silver box on it, that plugs into the harness and then there's also little condensers that hook into that area as well.

Yeah that's what I was told too. That would definitely be a possibility. Any knowledge about the one black wire with spade connector at the alt?

I should add that even when I removed the key and it stayed running, it still died on its own with. A few seconds like it did before.- Running issues and a couple questions.
I put an ea81 in my 79 brat. I have no experience with carburaters. Even though I had an 86 brat, it was fuel injected. We got it running, but it runs for like 10 seconds and then dies. Not sure why. Then, we started it again, this time I turned the key off, and even removed it, and it continued to run, like I hadn't touched the key. Another question is, the harness in the brat has 4 wires for the alternator. 1 big white one goes to the post on the alt. Then there's 2 that are in a plug that plugs into the back of the alt. Then there's a black one with a spade connector that has no place to go. Where would this go? I'm assuming g the original ea71 alt. had a spot for it. Any idea or tips or anything is appreciated. Got it running. Guess we had them plugged in correctly.- EA81 in a 1979 BRAT
Bump. Anyone know?- EA81 in a 1979 BRAT
Ok everything has gone together well. But there is a round plug that comes off of the disty. It can either plug into a plug near the voltage regulator near the coil, or there's another plug it can plug into up on the fire wall. Which one is the right one? The voltage regulator itself will plug into the plug near it, but I just need to make sure I'm putting it in the right spot.- Bought my first Subaru today!
