95 legacy needs more clearance
Forester struts are the same length as Outback struts. The springs may be a little stiffer which would add the slightest amount of lift, and you would want 03-08 rear Forester struts because the spring perch is higher allowing for bigger tires. But 98-08 Forester struts will bolt right into 95+ Legacy, just like the Outback struts will.

Convertable anyone ...
bratman18 replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThis was done in 2010 I believe. It was built by West Coast Customs and requested by the owner of a Subaru dealership in New Hampshire. It was not popular at all. I think there were 3 built.

Loyale/EA82 strut components
Yeah I do know that. I have had many sets, in and out of a car. But I'm unsure if the strut boots, and the bump stops fit between the front and rear, or if there are different.

Loyale/EA82 strut components
Are the front and rear use the same size bump stops, and strut boots? Also, are 2wd and 4wd REAR strut bushings the same? I'm looking into buying new stuff to go with my new struts an springs, and I want to make sure I get the right stuff. Thanks for the help!

my '98 Foz
http://www.get-primitive.com/ And he is running 03-08 Forester struts. Fronts are the same 98-08, but the rears need to be 03-08 to clear bigger tires.

It's been done a few times. Usually doesn't last long, but it'd be cool if it did!

How to Lift your Legacy without a Lift Kit
bratman18 replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell if you want to go that big, then yes, it would be better on the axles. Then you could fit bigger tires as well, depending on wheel choice of course.

bratman18 replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLol, well it could be instantaneous, or could be a few weeks. Depends on the brand of axle, and how worn it is before you install the lift. My axles on my 2" lifted Forester, have survived pretty well. But the boots rip very quickly, which allows water and dirt to get into the joint, so that will cause early failure, especially when they are at more of angle due to the lift. But as a rule, it will be more often than you want to change them. If I were to go over 2", I would do a full lift. But I know many have gotten by with 2.5-3" and been ok. But I also drive mine every single day.

bratman18 replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOutback/Forester suspension lifts between 2 and 2 1/2", and that's pretty much the most you would want to do before you really put too much stress on the cv axles. More can be done, but you will go through axles quicker.

Or video on a site that doesn't require a expensive membership. I have no problem donating for sites, but not one I'm not going to frequent. But I'd love to see video/pics. I've always loved your rig.

How to Lift your Legacy without a Lift Kit
bratman18 replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt would actually be 98-02 Foresters that are the same. 03-08 are different. Although it does seem that the front struts are the same for all 98-08 Foresters and 97-99 Outbacks. 98-02 Foresters won't fit anything bigger than the 205 70 15 tire in the back, as was pointed out, but 03-08 Foresters will fit a 215 70 16. That's what I run on my 98. I installed 03-08 rear struts and was able to clear the bigger tires, with a 2" strut top lift. Been running it for over a year now with no issues.
