Yet another Question on the 84
Does the plastic trim around the roof molding match the interior plastic? I have an 84 with a sun roof and it has hinges on each side up front and one center latch in the back which doubles as a pop up vent and it's removable. My sun roof plastic matches my door molding plastic. I think my roof is factory? The sun roof was not part of the GL package. It might have been part of the GL-10 package? Thirsty Forester - how come?
Sweet82 replied to Nashwill's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI just squeeked 35 mpg out of my 01 Forester two weeks ago. This was my best by a long shot. I have got 21 mpg on trips in the past. What I did different this time was, (and I'm not sure if this is what did it) Aired the tires up over 30 psi. Didn't use the Air Conditioning. Kepted it under 84 mph. Used the cruse control most of the way. The car was loaded with 4 peps + gear. When I got 21, I had the tires around 25 psi. Used the A/C. Averaged just under 90 mph. Used the cruse control most of the way. The car was loaded the same. My hunch is slower with more air in the tires and no A/C will help. Help, temp gauge pegged to top after shop visit
Sweet82 replied to serotta50's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'll cast another vote for an improperly blead cooling system. Fan connections also make some sence. You should have heard those.... I just finished (I hope) a battle with this in my Forester.

Looking at new cars, Outback or Impala...
Sweet82 replied to mtmra70's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf your worried about depreciation, Go track the Impala for 5 or 6 years then Track the Subaru for the same time frame See which holds its value more. ....Subaru.... People just don't want an old impala.

79 Brat followed me home... Can I keep it?
As for engines, I'd take a quick inventory of what you have on hand and make a decision based off that. From the pics, it seems like you may have a spare Subie motor hanging around. I'd go for whatever is the least work to install and get running.

What engines will work in 78 Wagon
What engine did Rising Sun offer you for $395? If it was a EA71 (1600) it should fit directly in? Also "fit" is a relative term. Anything could be shoehorned in. How much work are you willing to do? Hello, new to Subaru with Questions
Sweet82 replied to bunionboy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWelcome to the board, I was shopping for an Outback or a Forester too. I didn't care which one I got as I liked both. I let price make my buying decision. (Low Book, no body work, no door dings without high miles) It seems to me they are both the same car with minor differences. Some of the older outbacks/foresters had some issues with head gaskets. I'd get as new as you can afford. The gas mileage is Ok but not great, you pay for the AWD. If you need MPG there are better cars around. I have not seen any real complaints on the A/C system. And the heaters cook! Belts are no different than any other car, replace them when you should! Brakes and electrical don't seem to be issues with these cars. 97 legacy obw overheat
Sweet82 replied to Bradsit's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFill up the radiator slowly and then top off the overflow tank at the proper level. Give the car another shot and see if it still misbehaves when you have the correct amount of coolant in the system? I had a similar issue and it looks as though I was low on coolant and had a bubble in the system. I filled it properly and now, mine appears to be happy.

new to sub 4x4 world need info
I just did a quick search in the "Old School" forum...This thread should help. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41415&highlight=adjustable+suspension Look under your wheel well up front and see if your strut has these ajustment bolts just under the bottom of the spring. If it does just crank it up. I'd suggest unloading the suspension and putting penetration oil on the bolt before you begin. Snapped Key Removal from Door Lock
A locksmith will use a small piece of metal shaped like a harpoon and pull it out by hooking some part of the key. You could make something similar with a piece of an old tape measure. I doubt you'd find a pair of tweezers small or flat enough to actually fit in the lock and grip it. The pins are going to try and hold the key in place Broken keys are not a known common problem with Subies that I know of... Your dealer should be able to cut you a "courtesy key" for free. Every dealer I have been to has done this with a smile for free! Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--many courtesy keys cut 84 GL Mad Max--need to go get a courtesy key cut 01 Forester--two courtesy keys cut
