Carb Choke basics
I have always had to bump the pedal to unlock the choke/high rpms when it's warming up. I have never seen it calm down on it's own but then again, I never let it run long enough to see if it will do it on it's own? For what that's worth? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Weight Stripping
Does the car need to be street legal? Might I suggest removing the body for a huge weight reduction? I saved a "ton" of weight by doing that. Glass weighs! Doors weigh, Hatches weigh, Hood weighs, Seats weigh a bit, My chrome bumper didn't weigh that much... What do you need the car to do? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--serious weight reduction 01 Forester

Heater Blower Wacky
I'd bet the motor is fine and the wiring is messed. Try jumping power to the blower and see if it behaves? Put a volt-o-meter on it next time it don't wanna play and see if your getting power? My money is on the resistors for the speed setting are messed or in the process of messing up. Check your grounds too! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

"Rattle" in 87 GL
I would have suspected the heat shields on the exhaust pipe. I have always got rocks or pieces of rust rattleing around in them. They only made noise during a shift too? That was easy to trouble shoot by pounding on various points on the underside. Have you isolated the noise to the tranny and not to the exhaust? Humm, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Newbie, any tips?
Welcome to the board! I've found the basic tune up kit does extremely well on these old beasts. Plugs, a cap and wires seems to cure everything. Four wheel drive in a small car is amazing! Enjoy you new toy. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

rolling a fender
I was just messin with ya on the sawzall bit... Howerver, On the Buggy when I hit an exposed metal edge, I used that small drip Irrigation tubing split open to form a molding. This made it so the metal edges are not such a problem. My dash, all metal side pannels, rear pannel and windshield are all lined with tubing to eliminate any sharp edges... http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo21/MVC_174F Here is what I talking about in case anyone cares... Tubing came from Harbor Freight for $5 on sale. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

running rich EA81 Hitachi Carb
S'ko, Mine was bolted to the same bolt that the hood release latch is attacted with. Should be a black or blue box 2" X 3" X 1". I had a big Mitsibishi logo on mine. Has a six prong wire clip attached to it. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Horn ? for a 1988 Wagon
I'd check for corrosion on the horn wire clips. I had the same basic problem. I took it off and cleaned the horn and clips. Worked just fine after that. Harbor Freight has $7 horns on occasion. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

running rich EA81 Hitachi Carb
The wrong fuel pump control unit box will tell your carb & pump the wrong things I had the wrong FPCU on my buggy for a while. It ran... but it ran rich. Just a thought... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
