  1. Start a thread in the marketplace for a EA81 engine with low miles, in the PNW. Once you get the engine, help might not be that hard to find
  2. Yes they did. They made Hatches and Brats until the late 80's. I have had 2 hatches that were 86's.
  3. Zap, the tree will fit better in the Toy :-p The weather (at this time) is supposed to be SUNNY :-\
  4. I hate to say it, but thats just lame :-\ You have crashed your hatch a couple times now. Me thinks you should be on a bicycle
  5. The only friends I have are Subaru owners, except for family members. In my area, when people see my Hatch, its a good response. Usually a thumbs up or a "Nice rig, man", or "thats so cool" (from the kids). I had one gal at my espresso stand say its the funniest looking thing she has ever seen. I replied, "would you be laughing when I rolled over your little Honda?"
  6. Ah, should have made that Pacific Ocean So, you are far from local and I guess my original offer is withdrawn. BUT, theres a shop in PDX owned by a board member here who does excellent work. Import Specialties, I believe and his name is Richie on the board.
  7. Generally, anything 84 and up will be a hydraulic lifter engine. Altho theres no guarantee of this either. It would be better f you could find a donor car, one that you know is a runner with just body damage or rust as the problem. The only checks that can be done with the engine out of the car is oil consistency, color and odor. A milky looking oil means theres water in it and most likely a head gasket has gone bad. This isnt terminal either, but you wont know how badly the engine was overheated till you pull the heads and see if theres a major crack between the valves. The location in your sig says Pacific, Wa. Is this the Pacific by Sumner, Wa?
  8. Its 20min for me Be cool if you can make it Richie, and all the others that have never made this outing. Just hope theres more snow than there is now :-\
  9. Hmmm, I really prefer to pitch my tent on a dry surface
  10. Well, he picked the right place to come to. The hospital is the areas best, and the peeps here are even better. Donny and his Bro will be taken care of, thats for sure. Btw, did he fall or jump off a roof?
  11. Welcome to the board, and howdy to a local owner The smoke could either be from bad rings or bad valve seals. Theres enough Soobs in the yards around here, it might be more feasible getting another engine for it. I saw a hyd lifter engine (smoother running) in a wagon at the Tacoma PAP last weekend. It doesnt matter if the car is 2wd or 4wd really, they all work (EA81). The special tool for the axles is just to make the job easier and faster. You can do it without the tool. Let me know if you would like some hands on pointers
  12. Actually the WCSS events have always been a little later in the year like spring, thats when the mudd starts drying up. Maybe they could hold the event earlier the year? OR we can do something different and call it the Subaru MUD Festival. What? Nobody around there has a Water Truck? We have had to do this a few times at previous shows. What I miss is the RallyX events and mud pits
  13. I suggested the correct way to do the job. The chance that someone would have a pair of Channel Locks big enough to turn the bottom is the same as that person having spring compressor tools. You can rent the spring comp at most Parts Stores and it makes the job alot easier. And you dont mar up the bottom of the shocks doing it.
  14. This "Boy" goes to Mad Dogs Diner I like to eat, but these dishes are so big I have to get a half order
  15. You need a coil spring compressor tool to adjust the shocks. They adjust from the bottom, with 3 different settings. I'm not sure if the strut is replaceable.
  16. If you want to find out if its the gov, just remove the cover and pull the gear out. If the center is worn out, the unit is bad. Simple as that.
  17. Yes, please. Let us know where he wiil be staying. Someone here should be able to visit him.
  18. Whatcha lookin for Mykey? Give me a ring, might want to go too.
  19. Call me when you get in. We'll set up a time and place to get together.
  20. I have 2 of each Well, 2 EA82T's and 2 XT6's anyways. But I would go with the XT6. Stock HP is 145hp. And lots of fun to drive
  21. If the trailing arm isnt dropping far enough when you jack the rear up, you may have to remove the lower bolt on the shock to get the axle off.
  22. You would need to go with straight axles to put a DL in. The easiest way is to weld the rear diff and just run with one axle removed when on the street. Lots of us do this, me included.
