If you haven't already done it, power flush the trans and replace the filter. This will improve performance and longevity.

Attn: EA82T Nerds - Project RX runs!
XSNRG replied to Subarutex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looking good Tex. Does the turbo seem to be spooling OK, at the right RPM? I'm interested to hear how the power is after you get every thing dialed in. Should be a decent gain with the turbo and cams. Speaking of cams, does it idle normaly? BTW...Andy said spittle...hehe -
I've considered the same swap...gen II 2.5. There are two soobs that come to mind that have the ej swap, both 3 dr coupes, one had the 2.0 turbo (UltimateRX) and the other a 2.2 N/A. To the best of my knowledge the 2.2 was a daily driver until it was wrecked earlier this winter and the turbo project is not complete. There are numerous swaps of this nature taking place in Australia, also a few EA81 and EA71 Brats with these swaps to.

XT6 throttle body on spider EA82T's
XSNRG replied to Dennis ex24's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It is definately not a bolt on. The bolt pattern on the XT-6 is bigger. I'm trying to figure out how a the bigger diameter throttle body will help performance? It seems like things would be just great until the air hit the square shoulder of the smaller size intake??? -
Sale people will always tell you that what they have in stock is the BEST...LOL

Check this out WJM, you got screwed on the XT-T with a 18mm bar... http://groups.msn.com/USMB/stuff.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1133 The 1800 with air supspension (4wd turbo) is listed in the FSM with a 20mm, same as the 2700...

I made these minor mods to my '87 RX Coupe and the handling improved DRAMATICALLY!!! 1) I decided to retain the RX struts, they weren't leaking and the dampening force is much higher than any other EA82. 2) I kept the front springs, they have the highest spring rate of the EA82's except maybe the XT6. I did however cut 1/2 coil from the spring and reshaped them for the spring pocket, lowering the car about 1/1.5 inches. 3) I replaced the rear springs with 4wd wagon springs. They have a higher spring rate than the RX and they are longer. (EDIT, I found out that the RX coupe and wagon springs are the same spring rate.) I cut 1 coils off these springs and reshaped them for the spring pocket. This made up for the additional length and lowered the car about 1/1.5 inches. Note: after cutting the rear springs 1 coil they were just long enough to have tension with the strut fully extended. Any shorter and the might make funny noise or even come out of the spring pockets when the suspension is unloaded. 4) I replaced the stock 18mm front sway bar with a 19mm unit from a RX sedan and the 16mm rear sway bar with a 20mm unit from a XT Turbo. It took just a few hours for this ghetto job. I would like to lower the car more and look for springs and/or struts from other cars that might work since after market EA82 performance suspension parts are rare. The car has a much more appealing stance now and handles MUCH better! Overall I'm pleased but would like to do much more. The car used to push really bad, especially on pavement, now it handles great, nice balance. It also has a lot less body roll. I have a 20mm front bar that I haven't tried yet. I also added some period style Enkei wheels, they only weigh about 6 pounds each and greatly reduce unsprung weight to keep the tires on the ground. I've had good luck with the car at the local Rally Cross races.

FYI-Mazda has the late 80's 323 GTX turbo with full time 4wd and a locking center diff. Very cool little cars and still competetive at rally's...

what wheels will fit my '78 Brat?
XSNRG replied to XSNRG's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for the info.... I probably need the jackmans, I tried EA81 spokes and they rubbed, didn't check the manufacture date. Thanks for the offer Mick, I'm thinking white spoke will really look at home on there. -
That suck's, I had a '86 XT-T 4wd 5 speed and it had a 20mm that is on my RX now. I also have a '87.5 XT-T 5 speed that still has one on it. I thought it was really strange when I discovered it on the '86and when I saw the '87.5 had it too, I just figured they all did. Was yours a '85 by chance?
-
The XT-T 4wd came with a 20mm rear bar like the XT-6. Also, I noticed the springs on the chart, there is a typo, the RX coupe rear spring are the same as the wagon. When I lowered my RX, I used wagon springs thinking they were stiffer but then checking the FSM, it indicates they are the same.

gotta love that ebay!

Will EA81 spoke wheels fit? I thought they would but a friend said they rub on his? I was planning on using a set but want to make sure they will fit. Is there a early style spoke that fits the gen I besides Jackmans? XSNRG
