  1. 2.0 = bulletproof 2.5 = potential headgasket problems
  2. I happen to be a member of PETA* and I like deer (and moose and caribou and bear...). *People for the Eating of Tasty Animals
  3. I don't know of a published, comprehensive listing, but there are several board members who can recite models and years... via engine designation. Most of the moderators, McBrat, Subarubrat, Calebz, Turbone, MorganM, Moosens, EdRach, and others come to mind as being possible shortcuts to this knowledge without just reading a bunch of messages and hanging out and gaining knowledge through experience. Feel free to PM any of them and I'm sure they can answer your question directly. Welcome to the board.
  4. Good advise above. It doesn't look like that frothed tan foam, does it? That would be a problem.
  5. Thanks for the heads up. Always good to see other ideas.
  6. I am the opposite of Morgan. After 4 new cars in 9 years, I decided to buy a moderately priced car and maintain it. Thus I bought a clean Brat for $2700 and have put less than $1300 into it over the last 14 months. That's less than a 350 - 400 payment per month, and I own the cor outright and it'll carry me for at least 2 more years with very little problems. In addition, I picked up a spare motor and transmission for 200, so I'm covered in the event of a major problem. The parachute I have is a very reliable 97 F-150 sitting in the stables just in case of a problem. Don't let the little things get you down. Your subaru will still be there for the long run once the tlc is taken care of.
  7. You might check with Phatbrat, too. I believe he lives somewhere nearby. But with only 177 miles? And in 2 years? Is this a display model or something?
  8. That's why I was suggesting a different avenue of approach. Besides, with your new mods, nothing should stand in your way, now.
  9. Glad to have you on board, and congrats on your anniversary.
  10. Give my regards to the boys. If you feel adventuresome, head to Sutton and come into Buffalo mine trails from that direction (no large bodies of water to deal with and over 50 miles of trails. If you need a map, go to REI and use their TOPO! program to locate your area and print a map or two.
  11. Didn't he just close on his new house?
  12. You might PM Lostwater and see if he has anything, or take a trip up to see Moosens. I'm sure he can dig something up for you.
  13. Don't be too discouraged if your car isn't worth as much as you originally thought. We are generally pretty miserly and don't spend too much on subbies (aka tightwads). Most people here squeeze a nickel so hard they could make the buffalo fart.
  14. Greetings and welcome. You've aligned yourself with a good mentor/ board member.
  15. You'll be back. Once bitten by the subiebug it stays in your system.
  16. For things I can't/ don't want to deal with, I go to a private shop run by the former head mechanic from the local dealership. Best Subie mech in the state (besides Snowman) at a better rate than the dealership. He's got a sliding scale for cars he likes to work on, like mine.
  17. Kelly, Torxxx is coming down from Fairbanks this weekend, but I'm headed out hunting (as I will be for about the rest of the month or until a creature decides to offer itself up:lol: ). But you might be able to get Cougar and the other guy from Anchortown, invite lineofbirds from the Willow/Houston area, contact AKbrando from Kodiak, and there is a new person from the Soldotna/Sterling area also. Pardon me if I left anyone out (it's not intentional). Good to see you back. I hear you scored a lsd from Ed, and got to ride shotgun in a rallycross. Too cool. I'll get together with you soon to hear the stories and see your new and improved version of Roxanne.
  18. Not to hijack the post, but are Ozified shirts available for sale?
  19. Glad it worked out for you.
  20. BELTS = brakes, engine, lights, tires steering Just a basic punchlist but it can tell you a lot about the general shape and condition of the car. Ask questions. The answers you get, and more importantly, the feeling you get from the person selling the car will tell you a lot. Good luck ( as for coolant/oil, use your nose)
