HELP: 2004 OB starting issues
I got this in my inbox... I think we should all see this and see if we can help this person: I've just joined this Message board and I don't seem to be able to post. Can you help me? You can email me directly at bdmail@densmore.newshare.com We live in rural Massachusetts. We are having a problem with starting our 2004 Subaru Legacy wagon. Every time we leave it with the dealer they say they can't duplicate it so they can't fix it. The problem is that about 80% of the time it starts normally. But about 20% of the time it barely starts, running very roughly and spewing out a little grey smoke start and smelling very gassy. Of those 20% starts, about half the time after running at 1,000 RPM the engine quits; other times by applying a little accelerator it gradually smooths out and runs normally. We have told the dealer we think the problem is that the computer controlling mixture is commanding a way-too-rich mix at start. The last time they had the car, they said the learned from Subaru there was some kind of a software upgrade to the computer that had to do with rich running and they said they did the reprogramming. The problem promptly occured again a few days later. Now we've involved Subaru's email consumer support tech service and the dealer now says, oops, there is one more test they can try. But their general line is, "If we can't duplicate the problem, we can't fix it." The car is at 43,000 miles and the engine is warrantied to 50,000. We want to make sure the problem is fixed while we are still in warranty. The car is unfit for its intended use and defective in that we can't depend upon it starting. What do you suggest we do to make the dealer understand that this is their problem, not our prolbem, and they need to fix the car or replace it? We've told them to just change out the computer, but they say they can't do that without Subaru authorizing it. We've asked if their is a resource Subaru has for them, or for car owners, that tracks service difficulty reports of similar problems, and both the dealer and Subaru say no. That's hard to believe. Advice?

Carlisle May 19-21
we really aren't a club.... mostly a bunch of people that get together once in a while. With that being said...it is very family oriented. Scott brings his son. The language is usually ok...maybe the occasional f bomb. This is a show and not an off road event. Camping: Scott does it at the show. I am priss and I go home every night to a nice warm shower and a soft bed Where are you in the York area? Wifes from there and we get over quite often (we are only 40 min away)

Outback hotness....
subeman90 replied to WJM's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXit is proplerly aligned if you do with cars what he does. If he was an off roader then yes that is waaaayyyyyy out of spec. but if you are a cone lover like he is I'd say that sounds damn good to me for settings. Think of it this way: when youu corner you end up wearing the outer edge right. Well he is running with a bias toward the inner edge so that when the forces push the car to be on the outer edge it actually corners on the whole tire and not with a bias to the outer edge (more tread on the ground = faster corners and better handling). Without a pic to diagram it, it is a little harder to understand but if you could see a diagram you'd totally understand it. plus if you have ever seen him drive...well that would make sense also.

BLUBARU (Pics)
subeman90 replied to CSBOMB's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had the exact same one once (04 XS 5 speed and blue too) I'll spare you the rest of the details but they aren't pretty and I don't have it anymore.... It was a nice car though. Consider getting tint for the windows...I bet it would really look cool like that.

Anyone with an 06 Impreza 2.5i 5speed?
subeman90 replied to 75subie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI don't know how your dad is with mileage per year etc. and how long he plans on keeping the car but subaru was offering a $199 lease for 48 months with nothing down at delivery. Since it is a new month the incentives might have chaneged but ?????? The 16,699 thing is about the going rate for a stripped 2.5i. They (some dealer in the Harrisburg PA area) was offering 2.5i's for that during the Harrisburg auto show. IMHO, that is a sweet price. (and has been mulled around here a few times )

Justy Problem Areas?
if any of you justy folks ever get an ECVT I have a 1988 supplement for the ECVT system. I will loan it to anyone that wants to keep an ECVT on the road. Key word here is LOAN!!!!!!!! Oh and the Justys are cool too. I never drove one but I think they would be a fun little car to cruise in. Quick funny story: bunch of years ago when I was in college i was out playing in the snow in my XT-T. I was out on a back road and went by a farm house out in the middle of nowhere. In the driveway buried up to the door mirrors was a justy 4wd. I guess they thought they could make it (very large drifts) in the driveway but instead they sunk it and had to "dukes of hazzard" themselves out of the door windows. Very funny sighting...I can still see it in my head.

Digi dash Project........
I think I saw somewhere that someone thought that the voltage regulator on the board or voltage stabilizer on them goes bad and then they fry. I guess what I am saying is...just b/c you found the burnt spot doesn't mean that it is going to be a permanent fix. Just keep it in mind. Good luck though...I really like the 83/84 digi dash. Way cool!

12v air compressor
why not use one of those tanks that you can take to the gas station and inflate with their pump. I believe you could air up all your tires on one charge with those thing.

yes! It is part of the 35th package. Per the 04 sales brochure "... you get 16"aluminum alloy wheels, a 6 way power drivers seat, dual power moonroofs (sedans get one), projector beam fog lamps, black leather wraped steering wheel designed by momo, and a leather wrapped shifter handle" 35th are cool cars....I have a 30th myself though....

Interior Pics of my Wagon
ok tex...help me out here. You took the radio and made a wire harness from the folded face to the HU right? Or am I off here? If so you got some pics of that harness? I have an 83 that I refuse to hack up but the factory radio sucks. If I could find a way to be crafty like this i'd be all over it.

Good WRX or shady?
subeman90 replied to KYgreenYJ's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI personally won't worry too much about the car. Some people suck at stick (I just got rid of my jeep for the same reason...wife:rolleyes: ) The one thing that does catch my eye here though....it is too much money. People have dealt brand new 05's for 22k (so I hear) Wing= optional take a lookie see at it and deal hard on it (they probably stole it from the guy since he couldn't drive stick and made a killing off of it)

New to the Subaru Vanagon Forum - New Project
I'm surprised that nobody has welcomed you yet and remarked on your great progress with the conversion. Anyhow it seems that you have a well thought out project before you and a very good doner engine. you might want to hold off on scrapping the legacy just yet though. you might be able to pull some stuff off of it and make a few bucks (recoop some for the investment and maybe help others out with cheap parts). As for your .xls..... trash it now because when you see what this is starting to cost you (as with any project) sometime ignorance is bliss Anyhow welcome and take lots of pics along the way. Matt
