  1. Depends on the year of the car. In '87 all Full Time cars were 5 speeds. In '88 all Full Timers were GL-10's (5 speed standard or 4EAT optional).* In '89 in could be either. The Full Time GL came standard with a 4EAT (Full Time 5 speed not available in the GL) In the GL-10 it (4EAT) was available as a option (5speed standard). As a side note, all '90 Loyale Turbo Full Time 4wd cars had the 4EAT, '89 was the last year for the Full Time 5 speed in the EA82. * Except RX. This information taken directly from the factory sales brochures, these list standard and optional features, exceptions are possible.
  2. Welcome back. Yes, I would like some parts too. I have a list on your friends thread.
  3. Very informative Rob! I looked very carefully at the pictures and didn't see a '83 Safari Rally RX:boohoo:
  4. Sign me up for a '83 RX with this! http://ultimatesubaru.org/80s/projectrudy/spengine.jpg
  5. GD, the DL 5 speed 4wd uses the push button, single range style trans. That was standard, there are probably rare exceptions to this.
  6. How many miles on the '87? Those are generally good cars once you get things sorted out. I've been looking at Legacy's for 2 years now and I really want one too. I'm pretty sure that if you find one for $2,500 it will be a car that needs stuff done on it. The Legs I've seen in the $2,500 to $3,500 range are usually well used, probably not any better than your '87. (A lot of opinion and speculation!) To get a good, low mileage, well maintained legacy in good shape, you will need to spend more. Average price on Autotrader for a '92 to '95 leg is $5,100.
  7. I may have one but don't know what it is. Could you tell me what IAC stands for, where it is located and what it looks like?
  8. Lifted soobs alway need some character marks:D It didn't happen off road but at least your car was muddy.
  9. Nope the 85 RX didn't have a auto or air suspension, sounds like a sticker job. Check for a LSD just for the heck of it... get the VIN if possible...
  10. That sucks dude...but i'm pretty sure it says on the driving exam not to drive on the sidewalks!
  11. Cool, my wife wants a new mini-van, I think I'll get her one. hehe
  12. There are two or three little aligning pins. Sometimes the pressure plate get stuck on them. You should be able to see them coming through the pressure plate near the outer edge. they are about 1/8" in diameter. If you can gently pry under the pressure plate near each one, working a little at a time, it should come off. You could spray a little penatrant directly on the alignment pins too. Good Luck!
  13. I think the all white was even a '87.5 release. I have a Subaru Brochure that only has the RX 3 door and the XT including the FT turbo and it says "1987 1/2 XT and RX 3-Door Coupe" on the cover. I have a '87 RX sedan that is Mica Red and so I'm thinking the white sedans may have been released mid year with the debut of the coupes (also white) or colors were a option on sedans. I've seen '85 and '86 RX sedans in a number of different colors. I would sure like a black one....
  14. Yep, that looks like a good deal for brand new custon rims, powder coated. I'm sure you could get a choice of centers and any offset. I like the pugs but it's nice to have other options!
  15. Hello, Several here on the board have done the FWD/4WD conversion, not sure if there is a write up. I'm sure they can give you insight. Definately easier to start with a 4WD, then you can put your time and energy into other mods, not to mention the downtime. I'm pretty sure you will need the 4WD flywheel and clutch and possibly the trans crossmember. Also the carrier bearing will need a mount and there are some of the mounting bolts in the rear area that will need to be drilled through the frame/unibody. If you can get a LSD, it is definately worth installing. Especially if your in loose dirt/sand, muddy or steep rough conditions. Really anytime off road it's a advantage. It can always be added later too, after the 4WD conversion, they are easy to bolt in. Good luck and keep us posted with your progress.
  16. For cruising at 90 for hours on end you'll need the 4EAT. The RPM's associated with a 5 speed trans at that speed are probably not favorable for long distances. You can find those trannys in 89 turbo cars and 90 Loyale turbos. Also available in the XT, XT-6, Lagacy, Impreza. I was really happy with my '90 Loyale turbo wagon. It would cruise at 80MPH @ 3,000RPM, the 5 speed does 3,000RPM around 65MPH. I cruised that car loaded with gear and 5 people from the middle of Montana to Washington at 85/90 for 15 hours straight, just stopping for gas.
  17. Mick, did you bid on anything? Car? Wheels? Did the Soobies sell?
  18. Andy, I have a FSM supp. that has the procedure for that, looks real easy, let me know if you need it. All you need is a new seal and a dial inch pounds torque wrench. This can be done in the car.
  19. Bummer. I just threw a '79 away. I didn't think I'd need any running gear, all I saved was the grille and the woodgrain dash. I'll see if the guy still has it.
  20. Cooool Andy:headbang: When you get done, maybe a spider swap write up is in order? That's something I would like to see! Pics when you get a chance.
