use the search function. weigh your options. figure out your budget. check the for sale forum. you can build a 2'' lift for about 40 bucks
  2. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/136132-diy-lazer-alignment-ea82/?do=findComment&comment=1144913 here ya go. also, ive recently had a broken mount where the strut attaches to the knuckle. twice in a year now, i need to be nicer to my stuff.
  3. my first car was a 81 glf fwd. it was awesome. so theres no argument there....without taking this thread down a path its not meant for, the car remains worthless to me without seeing it. 85k miles is worse imho sometimes due to the mathematical fact that that soob has sat for awhile. wheres the pics?
  4. rear lsd and 4'' lift installed on crapwagon. tomorrow the fun part begins with the front xmember droppage. full 4'' drop, my axles look happier than theyve been for the last few years of 2'' lift and no drop.
  5. break tools until you get it. i would still refrain from heat...axles wont like too much of that ( i could be wrong, but id rather err on the side of caution). buy a GOOD breaker bar, they hurt when you stand on em and they snap and hit you in the leg. after breaking a couple hf 18'' units i bought a big, round headed one, with a real thick handle. i use that and my jack handle(both parts)....itll give. One more thing is to LIFT the lever. muscles pull, not push ergo use the ground and dont hurt yourself

good point, but you misquoted me. I too wonder why the greatest nation in the world only teaches folks how to operate vehicles rather than to actually drive them.
  7. you need an ecu to match whatever engine youre putting in there. ECU stands for Engine Control Unit. ergo, one for an ea82t will not work for anything but an ea82t. find a wrecked legacy or forester GT and yank everything
  8. im glad we got it sorted. hopefully it stays that way for you.
  9. put a rocket engine or anti gravity motor in there. there are maglev kits on ebay. whats your budget? motor swaps aint free
  10. it just so happens that i have a spare 04 wrx>88saab kit right here....not. good luck, youre kinda on your own here. have fun converting from fwd to awd.
  11. i need somebody who knows ea82ts to come up here to parkland and show me what ive got. i have a ea82t w tmic/boost controller/ 3" blah blah blah.... probably shouldve pmed you but im planning on swapping this motor to a sedan and doing the same thing until i kill it or sell it. you should drive that beast up here and learn me about some dinosaur boost.....
  12. im thinking 123 in low,then 34 (maybe 5) in high. thats how i 'launch' my ea82
  13. that car frickin rocks! id just gotten two projects and then some and couldnt afford it. ill give ya a dollar for it
  14. Rule NUMBER ONE: always use subaru oem intake gaskets. I do not always follow this rule. how are you preparing and installing them? perhaps an intake mani that is out of square with the head or vice versa? in my earlier motor pullings i would leave the intake in the car and install new gaskets. none have leaked that i know of. ive since quit doing that. You seem to know what youre doing from the posts ive read so id say theres something goin on here.
  15. I just remembered something....didnt you say you went without the gasket on the throttle body after you discovered thats where your original leak was from?
  16. Ill give you your old one back and a new gasket. sucks that one leaks. And I did use a torque wrench (beam style) when installing and the rtv on the bolts is from putting them through the holes. Thats what I (and now you) get for not sticking to cheap used crap instead of buying new
  17. there is a reason that everyone recommends buying a gates kit from ebay when doing timing on an l series
  18. where is this spot???? im down for some local wheelin, and im sure im not the only one
  19. i made the comparison between the two to illustrate that just because a product makes a surface look better for a short time, doesnt mean its doing good things. Just trying to draw a parallel. basically you need to use more and more of it while it makes things brittle and wear out. Perhaps i should have compared "tire wet" which is silicone and bad for your tires, but hey, we all gotta bling right?
  20. good deal on the BRAT, the jumpseats arent worth 400 but still a good deal. i paid less than half that for my 78, with jumpseats. mine has a ea81 but doesnt run yet. im sure fixing your ea71 would be cheaper and easier than swapping in the ea81, im not sure itll bolt to the trans bellhousing. hg jobs are fun, get good parts and take your time
  21. pulling the engine is super easy. I just sold a motor to a member here and he pulled his motor by hand with the help of his sister and a passerby. where there is a will, there is a way. get on youtube, search MilesFox or "the art of subaru maintenance". Miles makes great videos and its quicker than having to wait for responses with typical q's. grab a sixer of that excuse for beer you guys have down there and watch some vids about your ea82. first time motor pull only takes a few hours. fixing/cleaning your engine/engine bay (im sure its horrible if you leak lots of oil) will be LOADS easier. less up and down to the floor is nice in the long run. do it right, do it once.
