  1. severe oil leak just as bad. If it was run with minimal oil, or with the low pressure light on (which is triggered at a terrifyingly low 3 psi or something !) bearings could still have been compromised. Same is true if some issue caused excessive fuel to blow-by into the oil.....
  2. great idea, had a similar issue with a 90 Maxima my daughter drove. Sometimes, you can experiment by swapping with another relay - what? headlight or ac comp? - often 2-3 relays are the same part# employed for different functions.
  3. Not knowing how often, or severely, the bad head gaskets caused engine overheating is a major question mark in the chain of events. Severe overheating leads to poor lubrication which can lead to rod or other engine bearing failure.
  4. often, starting, then dieing is due to a failed/misplaced hose between the intake and the Intake Air Control Valve.
  5. I wouldn't surprised most of the bushings in the shift linkage are bad. Could be both that AND trans I guess. I replaced most of the bushings in my 06's shifter and it is far 'younger' than your vehicle.
  6. others will respond with better info, but everything I've read across 2-3 forums for years indicates, 2" lift is the threshold. That or less is not too difficult, more calls for some more 'intense'(as in $$$) work with axles and suspension and alignment.
  7. user @lmdew may be able to help with some parts. glad you're OK.
  8. maybe you have incorrect sized tires and/or the transmission was swapped from a vehicle with a different final drive ratio. Odometers are usually 'rolled back' (total mileage reduced) but that is not going to affect the rate of accumulation.
  9. TPS signal dropping out? Maybe get an analog meter on the tps output and exercise it to see if resistance change is smooth.
  10. what they all said up there. Do you KNOW the car got a proper timing belt system service? You could always accelerate the timing belt system's service schedule. Do it at 75K miles or 75 months for instance. Make darn sure you are using a good kit. Don't run without covers. Use good oil, make sure the turbo and avls oil screens are clean. buying a used turbo is a gutsy move. If you want to worry about something, read about the Killer B oil pick-up .
  11. check underhood along the plastic tank - to - metal core attachment. It's a common leak point. You could get a pressure testing kit from a parts store on loan to help too. Be aware, many folks have slowed/stopped minor leaks with the Subaru Coolant Conditioner. I'd want to make darn sure the heater core had to come out before tackling that job. (sry to hi-jack with no info on the swap itself)
  12. premium fuel needed in that engine. shaking could be several things, but rear bushings for front lower control arms go 'fairly' early on some cars.
  13. triple checked all the mounts' bolts? exhaust hangers all ok? I got nothing...
  14. any clunking shifting from fwd / rev.? I can't imagine a cracked release fork would do this so, just gotta leave it to the gurus above lol!
  15. if you thought getting it for about 15% less is OK, make an offer 20% less and try to negotiate to your 15%. a much lower offer may just p!55 him off. Hard to know. there's probably better 'classic' cars to spend the money on but.....
  16. in case you didn't know, an app for your smartphone and an ELM327 BT adapter or similar from Amazon can let you read codes and do more. Cheap-ish too. (some free apps, and ,adapters under 30-40 bucks.)
  17. superb posts above. If you think there could have been any large rocks under the snow, make sure the transmission pan isn't dented.
  18. man, kinda lucky the glass looks all good. fun project
  19. I'd definitely do as lmdew suggested. I have had a failing battery set multiple/spurious codes on 3 occasions. May not be as serious as it seems but???????
