I'm going to try to make this guide as comprehensive as I can for setting up an EZ36 with a Haltech Elite 2500. Haltech does have some good wiring instructions on their website for the EZ30 but the EZ36 is significantly different. I also had someone share with me a base map for EZ36 but it's for the older (ESP) version of the Haltech software, so I will try to post that once I get it working well, probably after some dyno tuning too. Will also include specific wiring for putting this in a first gen Impreza (specifically 98 GF in my case, the older first gens definitely have different wiring in the instrument cluster if nothing else).

Hello, first post here after reading a lot. Please forgive the length, I feel a little history is important for troubleshooting, and it may help document my path for the next person. I've been working on resolving two related issues on my 1986 Vanagon swapped with 1992 Legacy EJ22. Initial situation: Van failed smog at 15 mph, but just barely passing at 25 mph. Engine would experience mild misfire at idle (500 rpm). Engine would lose power, as in cut out and sometimes die during two general scenarios: A. while accelerating from stop and during great changes over approx 2000 rpm; B. at constant speed on flat ground randomly, bumps in the road didn't matter (t…

Hey all, I have a 96 impreza ej22 just swapped in a manual from a 00 impreza outback, have the tcu removed and pins for neutral safety switch in engine bay bridged but I'm trying to figure out what pin I need to ground out on my ecu to make it realize its a manual now I'm new here so trying to figure out how this site works im on my mobile phone so it's not giving me option to upload the picture of the pinout chart I'm using but on the chart pins 79 and 80 go to the transmission control system would it be one of those? What I've read up so far is that there is supposed to be a wire missing and you have to put a pin in and ground that wire out for the ecu to realize that i…

For starters I’ll say I did search and didn’t find any definitive answers, I found similar questions and the only answers were go search. Back story: I have a 2004 Saab 92-x turbo with a bad engine (I will call it a wrx from now on). I plan on putting an engine in the car for a few months and then transplanting it into my 1966 vw bug. The Saab will just be used to dial in the car and make sure it runs good. I have an ej255 short block and I want to put sohc heads in it and run it with the stock wrx harness and pcm. Ideally I’d like to use 251 heads because I have a rebuilt set. I know the heads will physically fit and the turbo will have some clearance issues that can be…

After cracking into some log splitting on my dad’s repowered log splitter using an EA81, I thought I’d post a pic and ask other forum members what they have as a piece of home made machinery with a Subaru engine, or what have you adapted a Subaru engine to? Pics are a must! ^ this is Dad’s home made log splitter. We built it when I was in primary school about 30 years ago from a crashed Mazda 808 and a high volume low pressure ram from a Drott bull dozer. It’s got a matching hydraulic switch lever from the drott. The rest was fabricated by Dad, using the Mazda’s 1.4L inline four as the power plant. Several years ago after sitting for more years again, we went …

First post, forgive me if this isn't the right forum. I acquired a 1964 VW Bus "barn find", with this home-brew power train: EA81 shortblock, EJ22t heads, EA82 intake manifold, 1982 GM SPFI (1982 Camaro), Megasquirt ECU, Innovate Motorsports Lambda sensor. The prior owner who concocted and fabricated this, put 20,000 miles on it in 2007 driving all over North America before it was parked and hasn't been driven since. Worth nothing - the owners journal shows getting 33mpg out of this thing consistently. Appears to have been a successful build, but it seems complicated and wonky. My preference is to ditch the GM SPFI/Megasquirt in favor of a stock EA8…

Hello ladies and gentlemen. I’m new to the Subaru platform and was wondering if I can put a 2004-2006 SUBARU BAJA DOHC DUAL AVCS H4 TURBO 2.0L REPLACEMENT ENGINE JDM EJ20X in a 2002 Legacy GT. I have no idea… or if you can please point me in the direction of a good turbo engine that will fit it will be greatly appreciated. TIA.

I have a 1998 legacy with a EJ 25 DOHC N/A engine. I'm having trouble sourcing a JDM engine of the same year. Whats my best option for different engines/year swapping? Any suggestions welcome.

This is where my build currently sits, figured I'd share it. It's a 1967 Beetle dropped on a 1998 Subaru Impreza NA 2.2 chassis. I had the shorten the pan about 5 inches and the suspension is a bit wide in the rear. There were a handful of routes I could have take th avoid that like cutting the body in half or lowering the shock towers and putting shorter shocks in, but I want the beetle to have as many off the shelf parts as possible so if something breaks I can easily find it. The front end is not staying like that, I'm going with a full fiberglass front but I'm not going to touch all that until I have the back sorted. The build is also getting uploaded on youtub…

What rear suspension should I swap into my 1981 brat. Fabrication is not a problem. I plan on swapping in a ej22 later. A better question would be, what donor car should I be looking for. Years and models please. Im new to subarus. Id also like to keep the D/R 4spd. Unless i can find a better D/R option.

I recently acquired a nice Subaru Impreza wagon but I need to do some replacements here and there. I am curious to know which other year model parts would fit on this Impreza? For example, would I be able to put newer Impreza mirrors on this older one which has the frameless doors? Also, I feel the steering wheel is batteling to turn. Youtube videos suggest it could be the battery. But I am uncertain. I suspect it could be the pump so would a 2007 power steering pump fit? Any advice is appreciated!

Toying with which car to buy next, I would like to know if anyone can enlighten me as to whether an EJ22 will easily swap into a 2.0 NA ‘04 Forester. I have a damaged complete ‘97 Legacy with 90k miles and I am looking at the numerous options before buying a replacement car. one such vehicle is a clean 2004 2.0 NA Forester, but has 230k miles. -Not necessarily a problem but I don’t need a high mileage lemon! I would love to keep that EJ22 as a future replacement, but obviously only if I have a compatible car. We are in Europe and have Japanese-made Subarus. Thanks for any information

Ok, I have read many forums with many conflicting replies with the following pursuit. A Ej25 block with EJ22 heads for higher compression. The following are my perameters of the build that I hope you guys can help me with. 1). I have limited room for this build. This is not going into subaru, so I have a maximum engine width to be 28 1/2", rocker cover to rocker cover. so I believe I will need phase 1 heads to do this. 2). I would like it to be SOHC. not DOHC not enough room and heavier. 3). It must be NA, so no forced induction of any kind please. 4). I would like it use existing available parts from donor. 5). Which ECU for up to 6500rpm? 6). Which head ga…

I'm going to put a 4EAT into my Vanagon. It already has an EJ25 engine, so with the 4EAT no adapter plate is needed. I plan to use a 4.44:1 R&P. The gearing with this should be pretty close to ideal I hope, and I think with the EJ25 I'll be able to hold 65 MPH in 4th (around 2600 RPM) with the torque converter locked up. To reverse the R&P direction (as the Vanagon is rear engined) I plan to replace the reduction gearset with a chain. I'm currently investigating chains that will work, although it's hard to find real spec's. Currently the top contender is the Morse Hy-Vo chain which is used in a lot of 4WD transfer cases. However the widest chain I can ea…

Hey Everyone!!! I've got an idea that probably hasn't been done yet...probably for good reason. I'm really wondering about fitment. My stock v6 is pretty huge but I'm worried about the shift lever lining up(I'm hoping to go automatic since fuel efficiency is my goal here). I don't think engine width should be an issue. I know the 2.0 is underpowered so I'm planning on turbocharging it with boost kicking in after 3500rpm. Or I'd go with the 2.5 and keep it NA for a while(that'll only be a bit weaker than what I have now but I'll be cutting 300lbs off the car). My GFs father is going to be helping me. He's an industrial mechanic(good welder, decent with …

Will an ej22 out of a 91 legacy fit into a 91 justy? Will it just drop in and bolt up to the justy transmission? How much of the electronics will have to be changed Ecuador, control modules and such?

I transplanted a ej22 from a naturally aspirated 1992 legacy into my vanagon. My vanagon didn't have ac and now I'm building an AC for it. To keep it easy to maintain, the new system will be r134a. My question: the legacy had R12 coolant. what compressor should I obtain that will be appropriate for r134a, and fit my motor. Nuisance considerations: will I need to modify or replace the compressor mounts and 4-notch drive pulley, and alternator mounts? Thanks, Eric
