POLL: Where do you shift

Featured Replies

3500-4000 for normal drivin around, 5500-6000 when I'm gettin after it.

Note: I usually go a gear higher once up to speed so the cruse revs stay under about 3000.

Car is a '87 RX (my wagon is a 3AT).

it all dpends. Everyday cruising, I shift at about 3-4k but when I'm our harassing the ricers, I usually shirt at about 6k:D

the 86 wagon is about 4500 when goofin around or about 3500 around town

the 86 turbo coupe, about 5500 when goofing around, and about 3k when crusing town, which is hard to do with that turbo power. :burnout::eek:

BRAT : 3000, 5000 if im really on it

88 (just rebuilt so...) 3500-4000 daily (not much power below 2250) and 5500 if I am really trying to move

87 (when its running) 4000 daily 6500-6700 racing

With the 2.7 and 5spd, I shift around 2.8-3K nice driving, kickin someones butt I'll take it up to 4.5K (I've had it up to 6 before, lets just say that 65mph in second gear is kinda iffy!)

Now the 1.8 and 4spd was another story, round town 4-5K, rompin on it 7-9K. Although I usually romped on it more often than not. Was the most awsome 4 cylinder I can think of. Unfortunatly it's stuck behind a 3AT in the 83 now :(

3500 when driving, 5 thousand when having fun

I shift by sound, to do other wise would require looking and paying attention to my driving.

How can I do that, when I talking on my cell phone?

with my mpfi it doesnt seem to make much power till 2500, then screams up to about 4500, so i usually shift at 5k on the highway, or reely high spinnin tires and slidin sideways. they can take it! give it to them! thats what 4 cyclinders are for.

the highest ever was at about 7750rpms, just cause i wanted to see what it could do, but the norm for city is about 4000, and when im trying to make the wagon go, about 6000......

what? whithout a turbo the stop making power well under 7k so why? did you actually start goin slower?

normally just above 3.. and 4.5 -5 when im jumping on it.

Between 3 and 4 all the time. Going over doesnt do me any good and anything less is lugging with big tires. I can slip the clutch and not lug it at lower RPMs but then im eating clutch so I try to just reve and drop it :)

I tend to wind mine out to 4500-5k

Just the way Subarus like it :D

Mine is equipped with a whistle when you hit 6500. And I was hitting it often.

Like the RX7? did you add it? where do i find one?

My loyale boggs and goes slower if you shift at much lower than 4,500. When I'm having fun, I shift it round 5,500. With the Legacy, which is a beater so I'm always having fun, I shift when the engine sounds like a crotch rocket. I'd say probably close to 6k. I missed second once and the tach went way over redline, not sure how far, but it whipped way up.
