  1. Go and get a 18mm rear swaybar from an Outback, unless that's the one that you already put it. This made a nice improvement in my legacy until I found a 22mm from whiteline.
  2. looks like I need to get my rallyX car back from dad ASAP.
  3. Any EA82T with a Manual Transmission or any EA82 with a 4EAT automatic.
  4. Proper routing of the cable is important. Did you make sure that you routed it exactly how the old one was routed? Did you reconnect the hillholder? Its spring is also the clutch return spring.
  5. Rob, before you get too carried away, you may want to take a close inspection of those Impreza seats. The inside mount is completely different then the outside.
  6. It's V 8.0 and we use 10.0 where I work
  7. I'm working on something but with all my side projects it maybe a while. Below is a rough 3D model of an adapter so you can bolt the seat to a GL seat rail.
  8. you'll really want a 5/8 sparkplug socket with the rubber ring or magnet built in, and not just a deep socket. The plugs sit a little ways down in the hole and pulling it out will not be easy without a sparkplug socket. Also make sure the compression washer comes out with it. The correct plug is BKR6E-11.
  9. That's not quite right. If you were to take a look at the water pumps sold through the dealer, you would notice that they pulley for an EA71 pump is smaller then an ea81 water pump. Also when subaru went to the EA81 body style the EA81 engine was only available in subarus with an automatic transmission, for the 1980 model year. Subaru continued to use that middle version of the EA71 in bargain basement 2wd models. During my time scrapping out subars for a living I don't remember seeing any EA71s with the side mount starter until about the 84/85 model year.
  10. All EA82s and EA82Ts use the same belt. Here's what you need to check. When the timing pointer is lined up with the middle of the 3 marks on the flywheel, the timing mark on one of the cam gears needs to be at 0deg and the mark on the other cam gear needs to be at 180degs.
  11. I've never heard of doing this and there is a good reason why. The EJ22 is a much better engine than an EA82T. If you have found a good legacy chassis with a bad motor, you would be much better off finding a good EJ22 engine than trying to make an EA82T work in a Legacy.
  12. I say #2 since you can get close to 2 bottles into it.
  13. Now I need to make room for my rally tires and Helment

Sometimes message board threads are like books. If there are no pictures, some people will not read them. If they don't read them then, they won't respond.
  15. I'm on vacation that week but I can't afford the plane ticket.
  16. I'll give a few of these a shot. The differential in both transmissions are open diffs but the final drive ration is different between the two. Off the top of my head I can only think of two reason why one shaft is bigger. 1st is that the axle with the bigger shaft is from a later model with 4wd but I can't remember if Gen1 4wd axles had bigger shafts or not. 2nd is the aftermarket supplier of the axle with small shaft simply chose to use a smaller shaft. Brake pads and shoes are still available the last time I checked. Some engine gaskets maybe harder to find then others but Subaru continued to use some of them in the EA71 EA81 and EA82 engines too. I'm not sure about trans gears. I think you can still get CV boots from a dealer that cares (i.e. willing to look them up and order them). Wheeling bearing should not be too hard to get. I have not seen a EA82 in a Gen1 Stage1 but a couple have found their way into Gen1 Stage2 Subarus. My info isn't the best about the 1.3 and 1.4 engines. If I remember right the 1.3 was a JDM engine that was later imported to the US as used engines. There were 2 versions of the 1.4 engine and the better of the two was stroked out to become the 1.6.
  17. The biggest issue I can think of is if the 85 has an MPFI engine or an SPFI engine. If it is MPFI then it's not a simple bolt in swap.
  18. You're not getting this code because of engine knocking. You're getting this code because the ECU is getting abnormal readings from the knock sensor itself. I.E. The knock sensor may have gone bad or there is a problem with the wiring to the knock sensor.
  19. Hey Tex did you check the shaft of the throttle body for excessive play? They will develop a vacuum leak when they are worn out.
  20. 1. Those of you with either the hot cam or torque cam for an EA81; what kind of manifold vaccum readings do you get at idle? 2. Is there a specific person that I want to talk to when I make my order?
  21. My vacation starts May 30 and end June 5th or 6th. I have not made any plans yet, but I never have been to the Bay area. Oh If I were to come I would bring my Legacy I hope that would not be a problem.
  22. It looks like I scheduled my vacation for the wrong week in May
