1978 DL Wagon FWD JDM style Project
carfreak85 replied to the_bbgun's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I doubt you'll find much resistance around this forum, unless you start chopping it up. Looks nice, I'm excited to watch your progress since I have a '75 awaiting its turn in the shop... -

Just did this to my differential bushings and transmission mounts. Can't wait to get them back in the car! -

Bump. -
My mom recently got an Eyesight equipped Forester. I've driven it a bit with the system on and it has beeped at me, but never taken over. I've been close enough to other cars that I had to wonder if the system was on, but remember, it won't cut in until the last moment and when it does, it will be a full-force panic stop.

Lowering springs with KYB gr2 for Ea81?
carfreak85 replied to 82GLWag's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you do end up chopping up springs, don't cut off more than 0.5-1.0 full coils. Your spring rate would be too high for our weak struts. -
I can still order them from several outlets in the U.S.

Lowering springs with KYB gr2 for Ea81?
carfreak85 replied to 82GLWag's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
When you cut springs, the spring rate increases... -
Whiteline and Superpro both make harder, urethane suspension bushings. You could order the part you are looking for from either manufacturer. There are also several companies who manufacture OEM replacement rubber bushings. Shifter bushings might still be available as replacements from the Subaru dealer. I machined mine out of delrin round bar stock.

BRZ Falling Out of Favor?

+1. We all know they were born of Fuji engineering, so they're all Subarus anyway, regardless of badge. -
EA81 to EA82 Transmission Mount Conversion Write Up
carfreak85 replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Did this ever get saved somewhere else? The link is dead. -
The real answer here is: Which ever one that somebody else has already built. They put in all the hours and dollars and most likely, you'll get it at a discount. Best part is, you have no emotional investment in the build process and will drive the living piss out of it. It might even result in faster stage times, who knows...

Is GSR,abreviation of Genuine Subaru Racing?
carfreak85 replied to ruheralva's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I have never heard of this car. Can you provide more details? -
I have an '02 WRX, so maybe my ownership experience can give you some insight. First of all, expect to have to replace your engine at some point. The EJ205 has a known problem with spinning crankshaft bearings, the failure comes down to not having enough oil capacity for how much power is produced from those 2.0 liters. STis and other 2.5L subies also have this problem, but they have a superior oil pan design that helps mask some of the other minor oiling issues in the EJ engine family. Moving on from the engine, early transmissions have a bad reputation for being made from "glass". I've autocrossed my car for years (no real drag racing to speak of) and the trans is trouble free. The SPT short shift kit really gives a great feel to the shift action. The lack of a front LSD in non-STis will hurt high-power and offroad performance. The stock suspension and brakes are adequate and the suspension has quite a bit of travel at the stock height (8 inches total travel in the rear), but the H6 rear brake upgrade is a low investment, high reward upgrade if your car ever needs a brake job. Wheel bearings will wear more quickly if rallied. The bodies and interior are solid and durable, but there was no AUX input in the stereo until 2007. The paint is pitifully thin on all WRXs and 02-03 front wheel well skirts break every ski season and are a pretty poor design to begin with. My advice with WRXs and any other car is to save your money, be patient and find the nicest, most stock, lowest mileage, best documented one owner car you can find. It will save you innumerable headaches down the road. If you do buy one, the first mod should be a catless uppipe. If the pre-turbo cat fails, it will take your turbo with it.

I run mine as described above, but with both front axles removed for equal drag on the remaining parts left to right and a LSD in te back. Granted, this is faaaaar from a daily driver at this point, but it has held up to my fairly severe abuse with little complaint. Well, there is a whole bunch of wheel hop...

Wheel adapters and safety
carfreak85 replied to spicypeanut's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
http://www.dana.com/wps/wcm/connect/dext2cv/commercial+vehicle/home/products/hub+systems/lms They do make aluminum wheel hubs, most likely with a T6 heat treatment... Wheel spacers/adapters can be made safe, but it takes some real engineering. Most folks, especially around this board, are not willing to pay for that. -
I think they look really clean without a roof rack, pretty much every ea81 wagon has one, so the naked roof is unique IMHO. I could do without my sunroof... They only cause problems down the road, especially in the rainy PNW.

There were two version of the button as far as I have seen. One says Passing Lamp and the other says Center Lamp. I don't know which came first, but there you have it.
